On Gengar day, I and my friend raided 4 Gengars, he was Level 15 and I was Level 34, he just started playing the game so all he could rely on batting the bosses were a bunch of Pinsirs and the Gengars he caught, while I had Mewtwo, Alakazam and Tyranitar which were all at least L25. After the 3-hour period, I checked both our rewards. So, GamePress says that Premier Balls directly relate to rewards, and he was in the same team as me, but he got 4 FTMs while I only got 1! He never even got a single ball for individual damage, but every time I got 3. What’s going on?

It’s given in bundles, there’s a good table in the silph road site. If you got more balls, you got more bundles, but nit necessarily more of a particular item.

Look up the word random, read it a few times so you can understand it.

It's not just randomness. It's also about sample size. You raided 4 Gengars, that's not enough to insure even distributions. If you had raided 400 Gengars, I'd expect that your amounts for CTM, RC, Max Revives, etc, would all be a bit larger than his.

You're observing the effects of a small sample size, so the variances are larger. Your buddy was very lucky to get 4 CTMs in 4 raids, your luck was a bit below average, I'd expect maybe 1.5 for those raids.

Just in case someone reads your message and thinks it's just all total random: the content of each reward bundle is random, but not the number of bundles. The number of bundles are calculated precisely depending on the raid tier and the number of premier balls obtained (counting friendship, individual damange, team contribution and gym control), and there's a minimum for the sake of participating (starudust, certain and unique) and winning (GRB's, certain).
