When I check my pokedex, it says that all 5 of my Gyarados are female. Okay, not impossible. Yet the one to the right is clearly male, even has the blue whiskers. What gives?
(I hope the images display properly.)
Genders were added into the game with gen 2 release and any mons evolved before did not have their gender registered into your pokedex. I had the exact same thing with male Charizard, male Muk and a few others.

That makes perfect sense, the male one was my first Gyarados, pretty crappy 3/3/1 ads. DT/Twister, caught him wild and did nothing with him. Probably before 2nd gen came out. Thanks.

I agree with the above answer.
It seems like they could at least count the ones in our current inventory, but they don’t. I have several Tauros (male only mon) but in my pokedex it shows that I don’t have a male one.
