Weather boosted vs Effectiveness

Is the weather boost to damage enough to counteract a resistance? Like if a pokemon usually takes not very effective damage from grass but its a sunny day, would they functionally take neutral damage instead?

Weakness is x1.4
Resistance is x.714 (which is /1.4 with a small rounding error)
STAB and weather are each x1.2

Weakness x resistance is a smidge bellow 1, but practically canceled out.
Resistance x STAB x weather is slightly above 1.

The so-called weather boost is a myth in my book. At least in capturing better mon under certain conditions. I’ve been catching a whole lot of garbage since the so-called weather buff regardless of conditions.

Weather boost has nothing to do with not catching garbage. It raises the maximum level (up to 35) and the minimum IV (min 4 in each stat) of the boosted pokemon, but Gulpin is still Gulpin.
