Water type event coming

March 22, 2017

Make a Splash in Pokémon GO

Waves of Water-type Pokémon are coming your way in Pokémon GO.

Starting at 1 p.m. PDT on March 22, 2017, more Water types are headed to Pokémon GO! Look for the Water-type Pokémon Magikarp, Squirtle, Totodile, and their Evolutions to appear more frequently all around the world. Additionally, when you're out exploring areas where Water types commonly appear, you'll have a greater chance to encounter several of the Water-type Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region. If you're fortunate enough, you might even encounter Lapras!

The deluge of Water-type Pokémon will last until 1 p.m. PDT on March 29. Good luck discovering more of these Pokémon around the world in Pokémon GO.

So hopefully Laprases, Dratini, maybe a good bunch of pinaped Magikarps...what will you guys be looking for? And do you expect these spawns to occur out of biome areas? Or just be more frequent within them like past events?

Nice! I may finally be able to get my Gyarados. Dratini is Dragon-type though - guessing it won't be spawning more, despite being in a water biome. Having Tododile will be nice for the Dex, Slowpoke will be nice to get a good Slowking too.

Dratini are relegated to water spawns....my hope is that they are just jumping whatever is in water spawns down a few levels in rarity. Fingers crossed.

A wild Lapras would be really cool too. They never ever spawn here. Would be cool to see one in the wild.

Yeah, never seen a Lapras in the wild either. Would be neat to see. :)

Why water? They seem to be the most common anyway and I can't see them anymore.
Except normal I would appreciate every other type :D

Do you think it will be possible for everyone to catch corsola then? That would be nice.

What the splash?

And they said, "and maybe... you might even encounter Lapras, " "...after we nurfed him"

I live in a water biome so forgive me if I'm not thrilled by this event :-)

There is a chance (just a chance mind you) that you are in the best region for this event. Much like the areas where only Chanseys spawned did they see a marked and gatherable number of Chanseys your (our) area could be just lazy with Laprases, Dratini, and other more hard to find mons while the areas where water is rare are posting things like "50 million Magikarp and not a single thing worth catching" or something. In fact if this "increased spawn event" isn't like that in some way it would be the first of it's kind. So let's just wait and see.

I guess. I never saw a Chansey before the Valentine's event. During that, I saw two :-\ But I see Dratini probably most days now, so maybe I'll see a load more Dratini now. Couldn't complain about that :-)

What a strange event. I would love to see a wild Lapras just for the sake of catching one. I really hope they spawn outside of their biome.

I think the same, but the announcement text says the odds are only increased on already water biomes/spawns. Another useless event for me.

It says "...you’ll be more likely to encounter Magikarp, Squirtle, Totodile, and their evolutions all around the world." I think this means even in non-water biomes. And then "Additionally, when you’re out exploring areas where Water-type Pokémon more commonly appear, you’ll have a greater chance to encounter several of the Water-type Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region..." These are two different statements. I think the first includes all biomes, and the second only water.

Lapras candy for legacy Lapras...will take it if I can get it. Good for dex entries for many.
Fingers crossed that some dratini wash inland with all the other water.
Totodile hunting it will be I guess..

I got why this might help some people, but here is Lyon we have two rivers and are already drwning in carps.

Anyhow, this work pretty well : i've walked 10 minutes on my way to work and found 3 dratinis :)

Well, if they make like during Valentine's and only increase spawn for areas that already had their mon I doubt I will enjoy much this event. In my town there are around 10-12 water spawns close to the river, but they never spawned a single Lapras, ocassionally you can get a Dratini, but my guess is that during the event it will be just full of magikarp and totodile.

I wish they really increased spawn everywhere, not just on already water spawns, as it is this event is completely useless. Not even to say that they bring it after nerfing Lapras...I won't even bother to go to a big water biome.

I am not too excited about this event either, double candies implemented in conjunction with increased spawns would be nicer.

This may be my chance to get a good IV Blastoise with Water Gun + Hydro Pump, after 8 failed evolution in the past.

This kind of feels like half of one of their normal events, where they have increased spawns of some kinds but not the double candy. I'm also less excited about it then I would be, since our nearest nest has been magikarp for the last two weeks, and I've been going there daily. Also, soon we will be going on a vacation next to the ocean for a week. So the timing isn't great for me. It is an event though, and I think it's still better than nothing.
