Was this a glitch and if so, has it been fixed?

This was in January but I am still curious.

I set my only Cloyster as my buddy.
Before long, "Cloyster found a candy!"
Saw "37.3 km walked" but earned only 1 candy (and was sure I had only walked 3 km).
