Wailord Defense- a bad side effect?

As good (or bad, adequate, whatever) as Wailord is on defense, there is seems to be a glaring weakness in using one to help out your team. It's not the typing, CP or anything, but rather, when placed in the gym the character model simply makes clicking on other pokemon very hard and for the most part the game thinks you're clicking on Wailord. This makes a berry defense doable but very annoying if you do not keep your screen ready to feed the blissey and jump in/out.

Even the swipe gesture (to get to the next pokemon) sometimes fails and comes back to wailord.

Obviously, the attacker doesn't care and will still pummel through, maybe the size of wailord will make them quiver in fear and drop their phone so that's something good.

Anyone seen the same?

Don't place wailord for defense; It's no different from placing crobat or other inferior pokemon in a gym.

Wailord's poor defender utility aside, I have run into the issue of certain larger pokemon obscuring smaller more useful defenders or those with candy I'd rather get for feeding. It can be a bit annoying.

Wailord is a joke. Only place one in a gym in the last spot for a good laugh! That way it always stays on top.

It is the same when you put Steelix in Gyms (the second biggest PGo defender), yes it’s annoying trying to switch between the gym defenders in order to feed one and you end choosing that big mon, at least Steelix is a good defender

I will choose Steelix as my defender more often as it is more likely to be fed berries than Lapras or Slowbro.

I agree. Feebas gets so hard to click!
