I'd go for #2. VW is quicker and has more energy gain, and packs a punch too. RL can come off as a bit lethargic to me. And you'll save a wee bit of stardust and candy.

#1 It's shiny, has better IV, Fast TMs are cheap and powering up from 17 to 23 is a negligible cost.

The IV difference is negligible; #2 requires less resources in that it already has the perfect moveset and would save 30,000 stardust; and the fact that it's shiny means fuck all, because a shiny Pokemon doesn't outperform a non-shiny.

30k dust. That’s a few hours off catching. High IV shiny is much more rare.

NUMBER ONE IS SHINY

1. The two advantages that Venusaur #2 has is that it has Vine Whip and it has a higher level, both of which can be improved in the future on #1 by TMing and powering up.

However, Venusaur #1 has better IVs and is shiny, both are things that cannot be changed. It has better IVs because +1 stamina IV only results in +1 HP while +1 defence will usually result in similar or better survivabilty, because the defence will in most cases, reduce a charge move's damage by 1, making up for the 1 HP difference, and in rarer situations, reduce quick move damage by 1 which is much better.

Argument 2 is simply not true. Venusaur has 200 def, so +1 in def IV equal 0.5%. So if we take a charge that inflict 100 damage then there is only 50% chance that it will do less damage due to rounding. The thing is, in most relevant matchups the charge will do even less damage. For example, a HP kyogre is doing 80 damage to a lvl 30 venusaur.

2, less overall stardust spent.

idk who downvoted this, but #2 is hands-down the better option. Save 30k dust, save a TM, save a tree, save the planet.

Unnecessary expenditure when the OP can just save 30k dust and one FTM by powering up the non-shiny Venusaur, lmao.

Unless you have an army of Exeggutors with Bullet Seed/Solar Beam, both. Maybe FTM the first one to Vine Whip. But Frenzy Plant is really good, maybe comparable DPS to Solar Beam, which is saying a lot, but you can get 2-3 off instead of one SB, doing 200 or 300 instead of 180, albeit in a slightly longer time.

Both Venusaurs are excellent, and will serve you well in battle if powered up and used properly. The differences between them are negligible.

You got a 98% SHINY and you’re asking which one to power up??? I hope you’re trolling us.

He's also got a 98% non-shiny at a higher level with the ideal moveset. Where on earth are people getting it in their heads that shinies add anything to in-battle performance?

If anything shinies are a liability. Salty people see them in gyms and tear your tower down much faster. Dont velieve me? Put a shiny in the sixth slot.

I would agree to power up #1. Like it was mentioned, Stardust and tms are meant to be spent. When people say “because it’s shiny” they’re not stupid; they are fully aware that it being shiny doesn’t affect its performance. Because IT IS SHINY, 98%, not far below #2 lvl are all valid reasons to power up #1. Oh and by the way, the better move set is razor leaf/ frenzy plant so you don’t have to waste a tm. Read the moves comparison. Razor leaf is on par with vine whip for offense, for defense razor leaf is far superior to vine whip.
