This update is really gonna kill niantic

Right now old players might be back trying to get a ttar through a raid and whatnot, but honestly how long will this keep then playing? I would guess not very long. Personally I'm fine with the raids and idc if a level 28 player gets 10 leve 28 tyranitars because mine will always be stronger at L 35.5. I think the real problem comes with the game no longer being competitive. What is blisseys use as a defender now, compared to slowkings? Is there any difference. I grinded my ass off to get 3 blisseys at L 35.5 with a lot of luck from the valentines event, but I still did a crazy amount of walking and spent a lot of dust, now their practically useless. If there's no competitive aspect to the game I feel that the hardcore players will eventually bail, and the non-hardcore players are gonna stop no matter what eventually. I think they should have kept the old gym system (and fixed some of the problems by tweaking it) and turned some pokestops into the new gyms and call them raid gyms or something. The fact that so much of the time I put into this game has become worthless really annoys me. Sorry end of rant.

I disagree. The game was slowly dying before the update. The new version of the game is more social, more exciting and MUCH more friendly to newcomers and casuals. Yes, it is much less competitive, but let's be honest, PoGo was never a great competitive game.

I agree. I'm excited to finally be able to use a variety of my pokemon in different situations (i.e. raid bosses with different weaknesses). I'm glad to be wrestling with the decision of whether to power up my level 20 Alakazam because it will be useful now. I'm glad to have met new people and shared experiences in raid battles. This is MUCH better than before, where all gyms in my area were stagnant level 10 Blissey towers, and all I could do with the game was walk, hatch eggs, and eventually evolve something only to get an unfixable bad moveset.

so you are saying game was shit but its a better shit now?
Why do we have to accept a fact that pokemon go should stay shit?

I agree with you that this will happen, if the gym system remains as it currently is.

If the gyms are tweaked ever so slightly, then not necessarily.

All we really need is SOME kind of incentive to stay in a gym, which we don't currently have. This could come in the form of a bonus for holding a gym longer than 8.5 or 9 hours, or even simply an option to recall pokemon whenever you want. Then, players would go back to actually putting their best defenders in gyms, to maximize payout.

Despite what I said earlier, I also agree with this. They do need to tweak the current gym system. They just don't need to put it back to the way it was before.

I think we've got incentive to stay in gyms.

  • We improve our gym badges.
  • Which in turn makes those gyms into improved pokestops.
  • We mark our turf.
  • It's fun. And the fact that I can now place Dunsparce, Shuckle and Sudowoodo in gyms only makes it better.

Getting coins should probably never have been the main incentive to get into gyms.

When you improve your gym badge you can spin the stop and you will receive 3 items, unless it's the first stop you spin that day! Also the little bar moves to the right! It's really awesome!

Regular gym badge: 2 items
Bronze: 3 items
Silver: 4 items
Gold: 5 items

Your team in control of the gym: +1 item

So you can turn gyms into 6 item powerhouse pokestops. That's not bad at all.

Besides this whole game is about working towards some sort of progress whether it is maxing out mons, marking your turf in gyms, getting medals or whatever. That IS the game. You could also ask what the purpose of getting coins was? It was to buy incubators and storage, probably, which again furthered which goal. This whole game is about the process and working towards some arbitrary goal you set for yourself. When you reach that goal you set a new one. You don't ever "win" in this game. Hence it is more of an activity than a game.

Nice can't wait to get an extra pokebsll or potion!!! It's smarter to mark your turf w a magikarp now rather than a blissey which is jus penalizing the hardcore players that put in lots of time and effort. Like someone said above, we don't have to be happy that they made the really shitty gym system a little less shitty but more laggy gym system. Atlesst the old system didn't penalize the players that had the better mons! Although I jus think it's sad they could make it so much better, shit we've had plenty of better ideas on here that could include raids.

IT FUN!
Bugs are fun!
Your hp/energy bar jumping all over the place fun!
Wasting passes for raids cuz you cant see the lobby is fun!
Your pokemons stayin in a gym for days and no1 kicks it out because there is no reason to do it! FUN!
Attacking a gym for an hour and its still 6x full pokemons! FUN! FUN! FUN!

The main use for Blissey now is to make it difficult to flip a gym back quickly, like right before a raid starts.

correct. it takes 4 minutes to flip a Blissey gym instead of 3 minutes. that's how powerful a perfect level 32 Blissey is.

It looks so, I've converted gym right before raid, but there was 0 extra pokeballs.

True you can't get a gym after a raid starts. But before and after are different words.

This update is a blessing to my marriage. Before the update I found myself wandering the street at 2AM playing pogo, Now I'm in bed at 10, hugging my wife.
Thank You Niantic.

I have to thank Niantic for making me spend much less money on their game! No more need for incubators, lucky eggs, balls (I'm getting more than ever from the additional stops in gyms and if I run out, no big deal.)

No point in leveling up, the era of the casual player has begun ;)
