The game just updated with the Lucky pokemon thing. Real glitchy and laggy. I would say give it a few minutes and restart.

That is a very old bug. Hard to trigger intentionally but I think the most common cause is usually when trying to load into a fight right as someone else is beating the last pokemon in a gym.
