Is trying to solo a Level 3 Raid Boss now the best part of this game?

My answer is "yes" (or I would not have asked the question). This game is about setting and achieving goals. I am really enjoying this game. My current goal is to get good enough to solo the Level 3 Raid Bosses Arcanine, Alakazam, Vaporean, Machamp and Gengar. I am having fun doing so. How about you?

The best part of the game for me is catching Tyranitars/Snorlax with Pinap berries while the other players miserably fail with their golden razz berries (6) ?

3 is do-able. Just tried a 4 Rhydon boss solo and got wrecked.

I tried it once with 6 Vaporeons, between level 30 and 37. Rhydon had half its bar left.
I think, even with 6 perfect Vaporeons at level 39 this task will be impossible.

Raid 4 boss has more than double the hp of a raid 3 boss (7500 vs 3000) so you completing half the bar makes sense (and impressive)

*imp thing to take into account when solo-ing. vape is absolutely NOT the go to mon. dps and base attack are everything when soloing. vape can survive longer but is quite slow actually. vs rhydon your #1 counter is without question executor with solar. (before the gym rework- i honestly cant remember the last time ive attacked with a vape. there was always a faster/more powerful option)

According to Pokebattler, i would need either
10 Vaporeon and 366 seconds or
12 Exeggutors and 319 seconds.

You seem to be right, and - it definitely needs two players to do this with
5 Vaporeon and 183 seconds [still fail] or
6 Exeggutors and 160 seconds.

would be impossible. HP of level3 raid boss is 3000. HP of level4 raid boss is 7500 (level4 raids are not meant to be done alone).

most level 3s are doable though im yet to see somebody solo a jolteon- would love to see if somebody can.

I don't think it can be done. The counters (mainly ground/rock) are too slow and don't do double damage while the defense stats of flareon and jolteon are much higher than the other tier 3 bosses (200 vs 160-180).

Yes. I did a machamp with my 4th try yesterday and was satisfied when i finally succeeded. I will try this on other 3er Bosses too.

It's definitely fun and satisfying when you solo!

I've successfully done Machamp, Gengar, Arcanine, and Vape multiple times each. Still working on powering some Dark/Bug attackers to finish off Alakazam (keep running into Confusion sets that tear up my Gengars) and I think I'm almost able to do Flareon.... solo raids are a blast.

I would love to try that but with the current dust system is impossible for me...I don't see myself spending the hard earned dust of this last month into powering up duplicate mon to solo tier3 raids just to see my efforts go into nothing when they rotate raid bosses...

If gyms gave dust I would try it for sure, but for now getting 5k less dust per day is a big barrier for me to afford it.

But I completely agree that probably the most fun/rewarding/challenging part of the current game are those solo t3 raids.

Not for me sadly, level 33 and had several failed attempts at machamp, probably because I don't have supreme counters good enough and very frustrating and don't want to spend dust on narrow purpose pokemon.

I used only one "surpreme counter", Alakazam, that i have at level 31.
In addition to this guy, i used one ES-SoB-Exeggutor (37,5) and 3 Dragonites. (37,5; 31; 30)
The 6th was another exeggutor (ZH/Ps) but it was not used.

I conclude: For Machamp, no real surpreme counters (Armee of Alakazam and Espeon) is needed.

can confirm. machamp is one of the easiest level3 bosses actually. was able to beat it comfortably without using anything higher than your current level (33)- remember - soloing is about speed/dps.[espeon and alakzam are fragile but their absurdly high base attack combined with high dps moves: they might not get many hits in but each hit is quite powerful) it might take a few tries [the fun in the challenge] to dodge well. but if your lineup has a mix of say 5 level30-32 alakazams/espeons with double pyshic attacks (i even used an old school pyschocut pyshic kazam)-by all means pump one up to your current max. should be very doable. if you wanna throw something a bit tankier as your 6th spot - id suggest tossing in your best hurricane dragonite/double pyshcic exxecutor

I used three Espeon, 2 Dragonites, 1 eggy, and a Xatu to solo Machamp. 2 Espeon, the Eggy and Xatu were all evolved from caught wild Lev 30 bases. I powered up the Dragonites and one of the Espeons (to lv 32) from before the gym change. No need to spend much dust to accomplish this goal just time (to find good candidates) and candy.

PS even a Psybeam espeon is very useful, has higher DPS than most other psychics.

My answer is also Yes..
I am in a grup of raid hunter (mostly raid a tier 4 and Tyranitar) but i rarely participated i mostly join for the fun of chit chat..
But i will hunt tier 3 whenever possible..
Still waiting for Arcanine and when i can solo it then Alakazam is my target. Those two is the raid bosses that i am not finish yet..
Flareon and Jolteon i dont think it can be soloed, but will try for the fun of it after i completed the doable tier 3 raid boss

Yes, I think soloing Lv 3 raids are the most fun and challenging part of the game. I just turned level 34 so some bosses are possible for me. Just succeeded at my first machamp two days ago. Had a Gengar to less than visible amounts of health before a time out.

Before the gym rework I was hunting for high IV high lev second tier counters with double movesets like a DB/O Kingdra, B/WP Kingler, C/DP Poliwrath, etc. Still am hunting them, but my collection is getting full of useless moveset guys. Haven't decided if it's worth using TM's way down the line for this, but maybe.
