Trouble with Gyarados

In my area it's not that easy to find a Magikarp so collecting 400 candies took me very long. When I finally got it (a few days before the moves update) I evolved my 98% IV Magikarp and got 1870 Gyarados with Bite and Twister. What should I do with him? Power him up or collect candies for another one?

Twister is terrible. Go for another unfortunately. I feel your pain.. I have Twister on 2/6 of mine and Crunch on another 2/6. Twister isn't even a usable move unless it's against a Dragon type Pokemon, and even then it's barely better than Bite.

That's what I thought. Thank you anyway. I'll keep hoping for some kind of TMs...

Power it up as a defender and put it in gyms. Move set doesn't matter. I wouldn't power it up if you want to use it as an attacker though.

I know that it would be pretty usefull as a defender with almost 3000 CP if I max it out, but the lack of Magikarps in my area makes me think twice about it

I guess it depends on the CP of the gyarados, how many candies you'll need to spend to max it out.

My first 4 all got bite/twister, all 95%+ IVs. I finally got DT/Outrage on the last one since twister was no longer an option, but it is only 80% IV.

I also got Steel Wing/HB on my only Dragonite, Lick/EQ on my only decent IV Snorlax and zh/psychic on my only Blissey.

But the way I look at it, my mons look just as imposing sitting in a gym as ones with perfect movesets. It's not until someone actually tries taking the gym down when they find out and by then it is too late anyway. Gyms in my area stay around because someone doesn't want to take the time to take them down, not because they can't.

Next time there is a double candy event, try going by a river or lake. In certain areas, they span like crazy, and you can collect 10+ in no time.
