Trading Evolution Triggers: Will they piss you off?

As Gen 4 approaches, I'm getting more and more worried that Niantic is going to require trading to evolve a lot of Pokemon I've invested a lot of time in effort in. I have 2 maxed out 100% Rhydons, a maxed out 98% Piloswine, and a 1maxed out 100% Magneton. I will be livid if these are going to require trading to evolve. Like, seriously. I had no idea this mechanic even existed in the other Pokemon games - I never played one of the other games. It would be insanely unfair if all of the effort I put into these guys went to waste because I need to trade them away for them to become "evolvable." Like, just so angry... I feel my face getting hot just thinking about it.

What do you guys think? Do you think Niantic is going to introduce this mechanic? Do you think it would be fair of them to spring this on us? What (if any) are the advantages of this mechanic? Like I said, I've never played a Pokemon game before "Go," maybe there is something good about this that I'm just not seeing. And don't tell me that it puts me in good position to trade for other things I want. I have what I want (perfect or near perfect 'mons). Anyway, trading is so expensive, and I'm so far away from becoming "best friends" with anybody, that this is no advantage at all, as far as I can tell.

They usually don’t copy the mechanics completely. Espeon and Umbreon evolution were changed to fit Pokémon GO’s mechanics, being walked as a buddy. Maybe they’ll require a trade but not necessarily that specific Pokémon.

For example, let’s say a Pokémon requires trading to evolve (like Golem), you’d need to trade x amount to receive y amount of geodude candy from trading, like walking 10 km to receive 2 Eevee candy.

That seems like a lot of work to implement, so I doubt it would happen at all. There are still only a handful of evolution items.

I doubt it. As you say, it would be an awful thing to do those with high IV pokemon.

The closest thing I can see to it would be via items, basically the same as the current evolution items, but which can only be obtained through gifts.

Niantic knows how much people value IVs of their Pokemon, evident by their increasing the IV floor for luckies. In addition they know that people likely have sentimental attachment to some of them. I highly doubt they will make trading required for these evolutions, that goes against these two ideologies.

Other evolution methods in the main series not in Go:
- some evolution stones
- friendship
- contest beauty stat
- evolve with open party space and an extra Pokeball
- level up at a specific location
- level up with [X] Pokemon in your party
- level up with [X type] Pokemon in your party
- level up while knowing [X move] (potential to be added)
- gender specific evolutions (guaranteed to be added)
- loads more I'm blanking on

There's a crazy amount of evolution methods in the main series, most of them tied to a specific Pokemon as a gimmick of some sort.

They won't impliment this, it could never work on pokemon go. It works in the main games because you can trade the pokemon back and the IVs don't change.

I can forsee them introducing other methods required to evolve them, like with umbreon and Espeon.

two things have kept this game moving forward...shinneys and trading..put 2 and 2 together...they can turn on the trade back at any time...simple programing

allowing trade back would allow players to completely abuse the system i.e. swap the same pokemon over and over till the IV's are good. People with alts would have a field day.

In a blog post, Niantic devs deliberately stated they prevented trade backs to avoid abuse of the trading system.

Like for gosh sake what is wrong with u only rhydon that u mention above requires trading to evolve. But it is highly unlikely gonna need trading because steelix and scizor faced similar problems and they only need the metal coat to evolve. So rhyperior is likely only need a evolution item called protector and some rhyhorn candy to evolve. If all of u non poke nerds wants to know about main game mechanics go and visit bulbapedia.Best website ever

Yup, because I've got one guaranteed Lucky left, and I want a shiny Latios. I won't waste it on some chum for an evolution trick.
