Tangela / Venusaur

I have developed many grass pokemon, and there is still no really good one with double grass moveset to kill vaporeon. At the moment, i walk for a 4th exeggutor, maybe it will have zh/SoB, but the chance is only 1 in 6.

Following options remain:
* Tangela (VW / SoB), Level 20 80+IV
* Venusaur (VW / SludgeBomb), Level 20, 80+IV

Sludge Bomb is not really bad, but it lacks super effectiveness attacking into waters. Venusaur will be bigger when maxed out.

Tangela has optimal moveset, but with its low attack-stat it will be weaker than an Venusaur of equal level.

I have only few Candy for Tangela or Venusaur, i will have to walk for either option.

Which PKM should be prefered for leveling? Please tell me your reasons too. Thank you in advance.

I would try to find another venusaur..i use a petal blizzard venusaur and even with that moveset it beats vaporeons easily ( if his level isnt too low)

Yes, of course, this would be best. But with actual 2 candy and no bulbasaurs left, this is more a long-term-project.
There are two of six greatest (A)-Movesets on Venusaur, and i just was not lucky.

Unfortunately, your piece of advice does not really help in my actual situation.

Then i wouldnt suggest you walking it you are far from another evolution...you might be lucky with a random catch!

Ok, this is an option. Just walk with venusaur and not investing candy until i can raise him to level 30 in one step, hoping to find or hatch another bulbasaur during this period of time.

The problem with this: I will not have a good grass to kill vaporeons until successfull. I will have to stick to jolteon and dragonite for a long time.

I'm lucky in that I've got half a dozen Tangelas, so I powered up a VW/SoB Tangela to lv30.

I find it does the job much quicker than my lv28 Venusaur (Razor Leaf/SoB) although obviously it can't take as much damage.

I use the other Tangelas for prestiging.

For me a double grass move is highly desirable as an attacker (well Grass/Psychic has it's place too...) - I'd go with the Tangela and hope for a hatch to boost the candy.

Thank you for your piece of advice.

Indeed, VineWhip is clearly preferable to Razor Leaf. I am wondering whether VineWhip is good enough to accept sludge bomb as charged move.

I'd go for double grass - based on my experience poison just doesn't do enough damage quickly enough.

If you have a Dragonite, you really don't need anything else to destroy Vaporeon:

Since stardust will also feel more rare at higher levels, I'd suggest walking with eggs if needed since Tangela doesn't hit as hard and has much less HPs than a SoB Exeggutor. I see gyms now with 5+ Vaporeons and having a more tanky mon helps a lot since Vaps are so common and one of the "best" defenders (high CP, HP, time needed to beat) the game has.

I'm in the same boat and just use Jolteons (lots of Eevees here) since I don't have a great grass attacker or Dragonite, but have to heal more afterwards. I have a Tangela with Power Whip, but it just doesn't seem to work as quickly as Jolteon (50 less attack).

Thank you for your point of view!

Indeed, a have got a dragonite with perfect attacking moveset - unfortunately i put im as a gym defender by accident and he is stuck there, for almost 6 Weeks. :-)

To Exeggutor: I am walking for my 4th, no solarbeam until now...

Stardust is ok, i have 150k in spare.

Maybe i just wait for another grass and build up my second jolteon (iv 95%, thunderbolt, level 16)

Of your current options I would go for the Tangela over trying for another Venusaur or Exeggutor.

Can you get your hands on any Oddish or Bellsprout? I mean I know they aren't as good as Venusaur or Tangela, but they can still get the job done. I managed to train against my 2525 WP Vaporeon with a 1200 RL/LB Victreebel.

Thanks for your idea.

Yes, indeed, i regularely evolve oddish and bellsprout, unfortunately until now without grass/grass-moveset.

I would power up tangela.

Venusaur's attack stat is not much higher than tangela's, so i think that a really good charge attack will have more impact than a few attack points.

Hope that this helps :)

Thank You for your point of view.

Sludge Bomb is not really bad, just another very good charge attack, even with STAB on venusaur. Of course, solarbeam and petal-blizzard are better as they are super effective.
So my moveset is not the best, but far from being really bad, it is rated "B".

Maybe, i just try it. I now have both - tangela and venusaur - at level 20. I can just test with a low-level vaporeon, and try how it feels.

yeah, you should definately test it, VW venusaur will be a great attacker in any instance and sludge bomb is indeed very strong.

I always prefer Solarbeam because of the VapArmy that i found in gyms here in Rio, so i usually kills the first with only quick attacks and hurt the next one badly with a SB in the face, but if you're a dodger sludge bomb may suit you better.

I have a CP 1911 Tangela, 93.3 IV, Tangela (VW / SoB).
It crushes at least two 2600+ Vaporeons in a row.

My 2106 Vileplume with double grass RL/SB can take down a couple vaporeon in the 2500 range, if I dodge the bigger attacks

My problem has been solved now: I finally got my ZH/SoB-Exeggutor (cute one with just 1200CP), and so i collect exeggcute-candy until this pkm will have reached level 30.

The Venusaur and Tangela will stay on their level and help to level up gyms for the next time. Maybe, i get another pkm that makes me change my mind.

Thanks to all who have shared their experiances and thoughts with me!!
