Suggestion to minimise impact of gym shaving
After a Pokemon gets kicked from a gym, only the players whose Pokemon were kicked out from the gym can slot in again after 10 min. Other players have to wait 15 min before they can slot in.

Gym shaving used to be an issue where I live in the UK, now I find gyms rarely full, even in the town centre. I guess once the newness wore off, it's really just the same players using them for coins. The update took all the competitiveness out of gym battling & once sworn enemies are now your raid buddies, lol. I miss the old gyms but it is what it & hopefully a future change will be for the better.
Trying to solve one small problem without thinking about the full context of how the current system works.
Blocking new defenders gives the attacking players a time limit to take down a gym. The 10 minute window after the first defender is kicked gives the defending players a goal to keep the gym and add in more defenders.
With your suggested change, imagine there is a gym being contested for a T5 or EX raid, but the first player to get kicked out of the gym is not present. Adding 5 minutes more to the time that defenders have to hold the line against attackers is pretty harsh.

No in all seriousness unless you're watching your mons round the clock which isn't practical you can't do much about it. Luckily its only happened to me a handful of times. Unfortunately it always seems to happen when a gym is about to stagnate for a while - the longest case was nearly two weeks!
