Sudden increase in pokestops in my town.

I live in a small town. Less than 800 people live here. And for some reason over the last 2 days the amount of gyms and pokestops here have more than doubled to a total of 8 pokestops and 3 gyms right now.(packed together nicely too. Maybe a 5 minute walk to get all of them)
So I'm just wondering, is this increase in stops and gyms happening anywhere else or is this a local thing?
Personally haven't seen anything new in surrounding towns or even the city I work in so I'm curious to know what's behind this.

Ingress players have submitted stops probably

It's local, someone in your town submitted new portals in ingress and they got approved, or in Pogo if you live in one of the countries that Pogo players can submit (I think it's Brazil, Thailand, South Korea and Mexico).

Huh, thats interesting. So that's how new stops have always gotten into the game? Wish I knew who it was that did all that work.

Either way, it's great preparation for the upcoming community day event so I'm hyped.
