Stone Edge vs. Earthquake

Which one is better when attacking with Rhydon SE or EQ? I know the difference is small but either SE or EQ needs to be better, which one? Does gen 2 affect this order?

Earthquake is SE against other Rhydon, most notably. But Stone Edge is SE against a wider variety of currently relevant pokemon in the existing metagame: Dragonite, Lapras, Gyarados.

I would give the overall edge to Stone Edge for this reason. Wider type coverage, STAB damage, and almost the same overall DPS as EQ.

Rhydon isn't exactly the best counter to those pokemon, though. Vaporeon, jolteon, exeggutor, and flareon/arcanine are usually more common and just better against everything but snorlax and the unexpected muk.

Stone edge edges out earthquake for sure. The type matchups are much better. Not to mention that mud slap takes care of ground coverage.

The only currently relevant defenders Rhydon really excels at beating are Snorlax and Muk (if you ever see one), so EQ is probably slightly better for now....but Tyranitar is looming on the horizon, and EQ Rhydon will be one of its best counters.
Advantage: EQ

Nobody uses Rhydon vs Rhydon and i've never seen a Muk in a gym except mine.
Stoneedge is better than EQ since it's SE vs Dragonite, Lapras, Legendary birds (2x for moltres and articuno) while EQ is resisted by almost all of them.

Tyranitar is double weak to fight and I hope Heracross will be able to learn both quick and charged fight moves. Machamp may have new attacks as well. Otherwise Vaporeon will be the best choice, better than a MS/EQ Rhydon.

But why are you using rhydon against dragonite and lapras? MS is awkward and slow, so you're either wasting time and dps waiting to dodge or getting hit by a supereffective fast move. Jolteon handles those two better, and arcanine/exeggutor and lapras/cloyster do even better than jolteon.

Vaporeon is vaporeon, and might be somewhat better vs tyranitar, but fighting types don't have the raw stats that rhydon does, even if they get better moves next gen.
Rhydon should still be one of the best tyranitar counters, and resists any rock moves ttar might get.
