'Stone Edge is generally superior to Earthquake, even in scenarios where Earthquake has super effective damage'

This is shown in the moves explanation on Rhydon and Golem pages.
Utter bullshit. I challenge the Gamepress people to try a MS/SE vs MS/EQ Rhydon against a Jolteon, and see if MS/SE is really better.
In fact, I would say EQ is better even against neutral targets, the extra 1.3 seconds with SE can't even fit in 1 Mud Slap, which obviously can't fully make up for the 20 less damage.

I agree. EQ is better against Jolteon, Flareon, Rhydon, and Tyranitar. EQ is also better against Snorlax.

Whats with all the downvotes? Run the battles on Pokebattler. EQ is better every single time...

Probably some kids who think SE is better just because it has much higher DPS than EQ.
Same for the post below.

Stone Edge is an awesome move but it is overrated. I really never liked SE in Rhydon. His best moves don't really compliment SE's fast animation and delay.

Super ef. damage moved from 1.25 to 1.4 so that page might be old.
Stone edge was 10 times better before. Now its close with damage update.

2 moves of the same type are better, and Rhydon can't learn a rock quick move.

The descriptions are pretty much all pre-gym/pre-raid update so I would not put much/any bases on what was previously written...

As known, if Rhydon had the same moves as Golem, it will always do more damage, but it doesn't have a good fast attack to begin with and Golem has Rock Throw which is a superior move to anything else Rhydon can learn.

There is little/no reason to use Golem when you can use Rhydon if you needed a "GROUND" attacker...

Once (if) Rhydon gets a good quick rock move, Golem will be relegated to less top tier...(good for me maybe since I have an army of Maxed out Rhydons from my gym sitting days)...

Jolteon is also only weak against Ground so Rock is not good against it...

I wouldn't get so excited about what is ranked best currently since a lot of info out there is out of date...

All the spreadsheets I've seen still rate RT/SE > MS/SE or MS/EQ, but they are pretty close now...

Whether that means using a TM on an EQ Golem is debatable, but having dual same type moves in an attacker is far better so depending on your TM Inv and team needs, just do/use what works best for you.

Despite protestations above, it is indeed DPS that makes Stone Edge Rhydon's most effective move. Both Rhydon's quick moves generate energy fairly slowly (7.69 EPS for Rock Throw, 8.57 for Mud Slap). Contrast that with 12.8 EPS and up for the three electric quick moves, and you can see Rhydon generates energy slowly. Now use that slow build of energy to fill up a 120 point energy bar for Earthquake, and you can see that the damage per second is not so great. Fill a 90 point energy bar, and you attack in 3/4 the time, doing only 20 points less damage. Frankly, the best Rhydon improvement would be to get Mud Shot; that would up the energy generation a lot, and make both Earthquake and Stone Edge way stronger.

Additionally, for defending (meaningless now) and PvP (doesn't exist YET), SE is a very fast charge attack, while Earthquake is almost Hyper Beam easy to dodge.

Put all that together, and EQ is only a fair charge move. SE is stronger overall, but I still think EQ is better against electric and poison (clearly against Nidoqueen/Nidoking). SE all the way against fire, ice, flying and bug. So, as we all know, type matchups dominate the play, even more so since they were jacked to 1.4x and STAB was cut to 1.2x.

The explanations were before Niantic added raids and adjusted type effectiveness.

Wait for GamePress to update.
