Special attackers

Assuming gym rework introduces species limitation (for example only one of each species in the same gym). Do you think specialists (attackers) will have no use?

I mean there is no point to bring jolteon into the battle for only one gyarados (comparing currently there might be 4 or even more garys). And same applies to whichever ice attacker you are using (lapras, cloyster, jynx...). Will these attackers be useless? Or at least their value will drop? Of course if prestiging will still exist these mons can used to prestige but I am talking about attacking.

Personally I still sometimes use a Jolt for one Gyar, just because he's so effective. Then I'll use him on a Vap, or even on a neutral matchup like Snorlax. But I have this luxury because I have some badass Dragonites that do most of my attacking.

Yes of course you can play a little when having very strong attacking squad. But I mean when there is really strong gym to destroy

I think it depends on the makeup of a gym. Jolteon can be used against ANY water pokemon and ice can be used against grass and ground/rock

Yes, but in general there are better choices from strong generalists (big 7, exeggutor, golem...). These specialist are on the team for just this one matchup. Of course it can be used against some others too but is it worth it to leave some earlier mentioned stronger generalist out?

That's true. But personally I think strong generalist will be more valued when attacking strong gym than currently.

I already use a strong generalist team that includes 2 Blissey. It is going to come down to time and dodging skills.

I'm really hoping they increase Super Effective to be greater than STAB, in which case specialists should still have their place

That's really good point. This way not so strong specialists might be worth it against secondary opponents (like jolteon against vaporeon)

The question assumes there still will be a fixed order of Pokemon in a gym, that there will still be a numerical limit to the number of mon allowed on an attacking team, that you will still be able to see the lineup of defenders before attacking, that gyms can still be taken down, etc. Until we know what the rework looks like and how radically different it will or will not be, I don't see a rational way to address this question.
