Sort by Level or IV Percentage - Naming Convention

I have a naming convention that right now allows me to sort Pokémon by level, with IV percentage as a secondary sorting, when I sort by name. For example, a level 35 80% wild catch is listed before by level 30 100% which is before a level 30 90% mon.

I am debating changing this so IV percentage is the first character and then level is second. Both have pros/cons.

With level as the primary character, that does order Pokémon is a more generally useful way (similar to CP, but keeps a 70% level 25 Groudon lower in the list, while raising a level 32 jolteon that I may need with kyogre). However, with weather boosted wild catches, things like a level 35 vulpix are now higher on the list.

With IV percentage, my perfect mons will rise to the top. However, it isn't necessarily the most useful option.

What do you guys think? Which one deserves to be the primary sorting criterion?

I find level and move(set) most important. If I sort by name, it helps me select the one(s) to power up. For example, with these Groudon, the " - " ensures that they come up first when I sort alphabetically; all have MS, so I only list the charge move. This has been really helpful.

My naming convention makes the best attackers appear at the top. First are the gym fighters and raid attackers I use the most and scrolling down I have all my specialist teams. Sorting by level or by IV would not do anything useful for me as I have plenty of high level pokemon I never need and even more high IV pokemon I never need.

My only perfect mons are a Growlithe, a Magmar and a Marill.

Keep the Magmar for Gen 4. Magmortar will have slightly better stats than Flareon all around.

As for Marill, evolve to Azumarill and use it as a gym defender. Or hope that Huge Power will come soon.

Sorting by CP somewhat sorts by levels anyway, at least for the same species, so putting IV first allows you to search for your perfects if you care about that.

Putting IV second doesn't allow you to search for by IV unless you know the level as well, as the search function always searches from the first character of a Pokemon's name.

If you're looking for something to use in battle, sort by CP and search the Pokemon species. It's not rocket science. I doubt anyone has so many Pokemon at varying levels that are all usable that they need to search for a specific one anyway.

You will very rarely have any usable perfect mons unless you use scanners or are lucky in raids or egg hatches and is willing to spend stardust. (I know someone from the silph road discord which i was now banned from who has a 100% Mewtwo)

So in my opinion Movesets should go first then ivs, and don't nickname anything you don't intend to use at all.

By the way i never nickname my pokemon because i like the original way it is.

Letter(A..) for %, IVs, QA, CA, Level

A151515BCr35 = Perfect Level 35 with Bite Crunch

B = 98 and 96 (if 15 A), 14-15-15 or 15-13-15
C = 96 and 93 (if 15 A), 14-14-15 or 15-13-14
D = ...

I use the naming so my gym defender appear at top of the List. For Attacking just use one of the raid teams

Everybody may have his own preference, but for defender i just search „Bl“ „Ch“ or „Sn“ or use recent.

I used to include %IV in the past, but I find it more useful to use letters from F-A (15-10) for attack/defense/stamina. A 93% Mons may be FED, FDE, EFD, EDF, DEF, DFE, or EEE. I also include moves, such as DF (Dragon Flying) etc. By this system a 93% Dragonite with Dragon tail Hurricane and 15Att 13Def and 14 Sta will be named: Dra-FDE-DF. I do not include levels as the most used Mons are the ones with higher CP, or I sort the most recent mons to use once before transferring.

Why keep the "DRA" part in the name at all? It's not like you wouldn't be able to remember its species. IV perfection percentage would be way more useful.
93-FDE-DF
That way alphabetical sorting doesn't make a mess out of your list. Or just dump the first part altogether and invert the hexadecimal designation: A for 15 instead of F and so on.
That way alphabetical sorting would always show up your highest attack specimen.
Then that same Dragonite becomes ACB-DF and shows up at the top of your list every time if you sort alphabetically along with all your best attackers.

So that all of the same Pokemon species will appear together. I removed the Pokemon species from my naming system and was really bothered by this. I've added them back.

You have some very good points. The "DRA" part in the name is really not necessary, but since I use this system for all Mons to keep, it has reminded me of names of new Mons that I am not so familiar with.

I do not see the need for inclusion of IV perfection percentage as this can be easily deduced from their hexadecimal numerals. (I forgot to say that I use 0-9 to represent these values, if I keep Mons with lower IV percentages but with great attack stats and moves). I am considering skipping the first part in the name and include level instead, that would be more informative. If so, I think I would put IV first, in this way I could get an easy sort of my high IV Mons of different types, that could be cool!

Since I have so many low level Mons with great IVs, sorting on IV would not be very helpful for selection of Mons for battle etc, I would sort by CP for that anyway.

If I skip the first part and adopt level in the name, the aforementioned 93% Dragonite with 15Att/13Def/14 Sta, at level 39, and with Dragon tail Hurricane moves, would be named: FDE-39-DF
