Solar Beam Ho-Oh refresher course

Hi everyone, a quick refresher course for those who weren't around for the Ho-Oh analysis: IIRC, the best counters (in the following order) for Solar Beam HoOh include:

1. Zapdos (single SE, single resists solar beam, resists SW as a bonus)
2. Dragonite (high neutral damage, double resists solar beam)
3. Raikou (single SE, no resistance to solar beam, resists SW as a bonus)
4. HP Gyarados (partial single SE, no resistance to solar beam, resists SW as a bonus)

Please leave comments for the omissions (if any), or any lineup you're thinking of using to fit the Solar Beam matchup, or just a general team you're planning to send if the moveset is unknown:

I will most likely go in with Zapdos, Raikou and 4 Dragons, but I'll have a look at what auto select chooses, and I might put my 6xHP gyarados team in the first 6 to act as sacrificial attackers

I'm out of ideas, I guess a wing attack/dragon claw charizard can also fit into some team, or a air slash/aerial ace scyther (both double resist SB)...maybe Snorlax can get an honourable mention as well?

Hey long time no see!

Yea I remember the post a long time ago. I think the definite answer is Zapdos and Dragonite. All other options are far less performing. I would also recommend a Hydro Pump Lugia tho. Let the bird fight his twin!

Long time no see indeed- the previous discussion was heavily influenced by survival due to the rejoin calculation though- for the raids now will it be more beneficial to go in with 6 golem first and then work with the autoselect?

1. Golem takes 13-15 seconds to charge one Stone Edge.
Ho-Oh, in the worst case, only use 2 Fast Moves in between Solar Beam. In the average case, it uses 3-4 Fast Moves. But even 3 Fast Moves aren't enough time for Golem to charge one Stone Edge. If 4 Fast Moves, then you'll get your Stone Edge ready right after the text "Ho-Oh used Solar Beam". Luckily, Stone Edge has an early damage window - it hits right after you release. Nevertheless, it's really risky - you'll likely die at ~80% energy before your first Stone Edge goes off.

2. Rock Blast may be better as it can most of the time go off twice. You may consider putting one on the top of your lineup if the room size is large.

Finally a use for my team bird.

Anyway, how well would Vaporeon do?

A fully grown Vaporeon can tank one deadly Solar Beam - which means you can dodge it without getting a dodge bug. But not the second Solar Beam as your Vaporeon keeps taking hit, and your half-health Vaporeon can't survive another Solar Beam - you are then subject to dodge bug if you attempt to dodge.
Given the case (dodge the first Solar Beam, die at the second), a Vaporeon can guarantee to use 2 Hydro Pump. If lucky (Ho-Oh holds its Solar Beam for very long), then 3. Vaporeon will do us proud as the 2nd-3rd spot in the lineup.

I made a list of Ho-Oh counters with more Pokemon listed, like Vaporeon and Tyranitar. Also, different counters for Solar Beam.

"Use 6 Golems, when they faint, just sit in the lobby and wait for the raid to finish. You get the damage bonus." - 333-blue

LMFAO

And they still haven't fixed the damn dodge bug....sign

According to pokebattler Raikou outperform Zapdos even against SoB.

Its a rating that give 50% weight to power, 30% to time to win and 20% to potion efficiency. Personally I don't find this rating useful.
