Last week I drove to the northern edge of Heracross territory, 28.85N. There were gyms and raid countdowns happening, but I was on a much larger mission. I was constantly checking my screen for my 234th entry, but luck wasn't with me. However, as I turned home I snaked through one more Wal-Mart parking lot and I saw an amazing sight! A Miltank dancing like it was at the county fair!

Somewhere in South Pacific Asia in my mid sized city (+-60 gyms in a 15km radius around city center)
My last Sunday experience.
Visited +-25 gyms. Or I find pidgeys, caterpies and look alike waiting to be killed for coins, or I find dragonite and snorlax with black heart sitting there since more than 10 days (the early fighters during the first week release). Only in the center of the city around the cathedral and in the shopping mall, I find a few gyms with recent and good mons. I fight, I win, too easy, and I place some mid sized mons I don't need anymore (no more prestige) ... Nothing compared to one month ago when you needed half an hour to defeat 10 powerful mons defending the place, mostly high CP Blisseys...
no worry, today we have the exiting new raids to play now... I try 5 places... Enter the gym, wait other players, go out after 115 seconds, go in again, and wait, and so on... All day long, not one single red blue or yellow trainer joined
I play finally solo 2 levels 2 (exeggutor and electrabuzz easy to win) and 1 level 3 (flareon, impossible to win alone, tried 2 times with 2 different teams and I am level 35 so I have good mons, with perfect moves and IVs and I know my types ...). I didn't try the 2 level 4 (Snorlax and Tyranitar), frustrating to read all your other comments about trainers joining with wrong mons or with wrong types... I wish someone joined to try such a fight... but no, zero, nobody...
next Sunday I will go again, but if it remains like this, SADLY, I will stop playing. This interesting evolution of the game is definitely not a success in my mid sized city... the game is dead here, hopefully something new will appear very soon. So sad, I have invested so much time in creating my attack / defense / prestige teams.
Don't know if you have the same experience outside the major cities ( i read so much positive news about what's happening in major cities...)

Possibly. 2nd attempt at a solo raid story: I timed out against a Jolteon today, but really not that big a deal, I have 350 eevee candies. Where I am it is really hot, most drive from raid to raid. Sometimes they stay in their car until the last possible moment, waiting to see if a successful raid might be feasible. Keep on playing and make it look like you are playing, I wear my go plus bracelet--and as most know, it is actually only properly paired 33% of the time
If there are any gyms on your daily commute, you could still play by using the free daily raid passes on them; although it sounds like your hometown is desolate, you could try to solo other 3stars; I found flareon to be difficult for me too, but arcanine/vape/Machamp have been all fine for me. It's a shame though. Best of luck
I tried today a machamp close to the office (solo of course). I missed 2 times...
Used my only espeon (confusion / psybeam) , my only valuable alakazam (confisusion/futuresight) and 4 exeggutors with SB, 2 with psychic and 2 with extrasensory), all level 30. Never evolved before , not my favorite in defense...
I missed more than 30 seconds. Dodge impossible the move always performed before receiving the message (bug or weak 4G , don't know...) . Machamp CM dynamic punch, so difficult to dodge ...
I have very strong dragonites (3300cp+), should I use DT/ Out or DT / Hur ?
Solar beam on exeggutor can be a let down if the move is fully charged but the damage isn't executed before exeggutor faints.
I would go with hurricane in favor of outrage-for outrage, the damage also occurs at the end of the animation.
Hurricane:
1101.21.4 = 184.8 damage
Outrage:
110*1.2 = 132 damage
Also, who is your lead? Personally, I would start with alakazam and end with dragonite

And for the leading strategy, i will need to test different sets ...
This part of the game is still very exiting.., I am searching for raid gyms with Nachamp and I will continue solo until I got it ! Will cost a fortune in revives ...
