So Legacy mewtwo?

It looks like the next major disappointment of the Ultra bonus is here. The boxes weren't that good and the low odds of hatching regionals wasnt much better but this, mewtwo's shadow ball , ie the only good set for mewtwo as a generalist and raid attacker outside of machamp raids, are going to be locked out. I dont know if this mean that only future EX mewtwo can have those moves going forward (and if so can those previous EX mewtwo be TM'd to shadow ball)
All I know is if these ARE legacy moves going forward, this kinda takes all the reason out of raiding it as that was the set that made it a good attacker

Ummm, no. Mewtwo is a great attacker because it has massive stats. It's moveset kind of gets in the way. Confusion is great, hits like a truck, but tough to dodge with. Psycho Cut does less damage, but is fast and easy to dodge with, and generates energy faster.
Shadow Ball is great, but doesn't have STAB. Psychic is strictly second class to Future Sight. Hyperbeam is powerful, but slow, and doesn't have STAB. And Focus Blast is, well, Focus Blast, slow, but hits hard. Probably the hardest moveset to raid against - best counters are Gengar and SB Mewtwo (now gone).
It all depends on what moves Mewtwo gets. If the new moveset is Psystrike, Future Sight, and Focus Blast, it will be an even better performer in some different roles. If the new moveset is Psychic, Signal Beam, and Thunder (highly unlikely), then it will kind of suck, but still be better than all the non-meta relevant pokemon like Rapidash, Vileplume, and Quadsire.
I currently have 4 Mewtwos from EX raids. Three have Shadow Ball, the fourth has Psychic, and is on my Machamp team. I'm going to think about it for a bit, but likely before the deadline on the 20th of September, I'll TM it to something else - if I get SB I'll keep that, if I get Hyper Beam, I'll have to think about it (cause will become legacy, could be useful on partly cloudy days as a good generalist). If I get FB, probably TM again, because it sounds like that will still be in the moveset, and my guess is that it will get better psychic attacks like Future Sight or Psystrike (rooting for the latter).
Yes it hits hard, but Psychic, as a type and the move itself isnt relevant on mewtwo, it only hits machamp (in a neutral setting for all of its moves, it is actually mewtwo's work charge move)
Shadow ball is what made mewtwo a generalist, it doesn thave stab but because its a 2 bar its DPS is able to keep up with psychic against Machamp raids as well as with the coming gen IV's 5 ghost weak legendaries and mewtwo itself weak to ghost everyone where i am was gearing up to stock pile good SB mewtwo specifically for that purpose. ITs other moves simpley arent that good, focus blast hits hard but machamp does a lot better agaisnt the gym defenders and Psychic is only good agaisnt machamp, and hyper beam is well, a compelte joke of a move. If they dont add Psystrike or a shiny, I think a lot of people wont go raid mewtwo as much as Niantic probably hopes
Even as a poor move, Mewtwo is still the best Psychic attacker in the game. I think you oversell meta relevance and usefulness too often. I agree that Shadow Ball can have more uses but I don’t see the need for up in arms when he’s still a top Pokémon either way. Kyogre is basically only useful with one moveset but he can be used extremely well in those instances. Maybe Mewtwo could also become an even better specialist
Another comment - it doesn't say that Shadow Ball and Hyper Beam will be gone, it says that they will be exclusive to Mewtwo caught in EX raids. So we might continue to have Mewtwo EX raids, even during the month of Mewtwo raids and beyond, for SB and HB, while during our month of Mewtwo, we get some other moves (including hopefully a better psychic move).
Yes I know that, but the odds og getting a shadow ball mewtwo from an EX raid now, which it seems that EX ones cant be TM'd to shadow ball or hyper beam means that you need to get a good mewtwo with shadow ball if you want to have a good one, unlike before where if you got a good one but it had hyperbeam, you'd just dump a ton of TM's into it to get shadow ball.
Whether Mewtwo is gone or stays in EX the fact that Niantic is announcing this tells me that SB and HB are gone for good. They will go legacy. No obtainable for any future Mewtwo.
That also implies that Mewtwo is out of EX. I think that "caught" is past tense. As for "only Mewtwo caught in EX and you're no longer going to be able to catch one".
I am guessing Psystrike will be the new move. Shadow Ball is a very quick charge move, so it will still be VERY relevant. Psystrike is a very slow charge move, and I think that even Future Sight has better overall DPS because of speed. So Mewtwo will be one of the best users of Psychic (the very best) and Ghost moves of all generations to come.
Well, this can only mean that these two moves are gonna get replaced by something else, which is actually good news. I'll allow the hype to set in this time because this could mean Psystrike or some other cool thing.
Mewtwo only has two meta useful charge moves and only one of them is phasing out. SB Mewtwo is very circumstantial and generalists are usually unnecessary for most players nowadays since the battle system favors specialists.
So here's what you ought to do:
Since Focus Blast is still gonna be available on it, if you are lucky to have any EX Mewtwo by now, CTM them all to Shadow Ball NOW. All the ones you plan to keep anyways.
Also, remember to favorite or rename them so they won't get mixed with the ones you'll be catching next week until the end of that month. That way you can secure a small (or maybe big) number of legacy generalist Mewtwo for any future use.
Don't keep any other moves on them because you will probably catch enough Psychic and Focus Blast Mewtwo to fill those spots.
Remember, a 0/0/0 IV Mewtwo is still better than the next best Psychic and Ghost users, so keeping a few SB Mewtwo -even if unmaxed- might be useful in the future and you won't get another chance to get them.
I use FB Mewtwo from time to time because I have found some scenarios on which it shines. In fact, I use it more than my SB one because I rarely need it. But in light of this move change, I didn't hesitate to CTM the FB one to SB. I can always CTM it back to FB later.
Finally, I would also suggest saving a single Hyper Beam one just in case that move becomes decent sometime in the future but I know many will disagree so this is aimed only at power users with more than 6 Mewtwo above 90% IV's.
