So... Gengar day, eh?

Why give Gengar Shadow Claw if Lick is just plain better? Make all those SC Gengar for legendary trades total scams.

And also, they basically shoot you in the foot by having to spend x amount of TMs to get Shadow Ball, and not all players can get their hands on TMs (Casuals) and even if they have 20 they may not even get the desired moveset! Do you guys think this was a good idea, making Psychic a filler move and having to TM to something better?

Lick I have no qualms with; Psychic is an interesting choice for a charge move. This seems to tailor Gengar as an anti-fighter (good for Machamp raids) to couple with its triple resistance. However, with the STAB on SB I wouldn't be surprised if SB performed almost/just as well, in addition to being THE generalist choice for Gengar.

Unfortunately it seems to be another case of "other things do it better". If you want to crush Machamp raids, you'll always bring out Mewtwo, Espeon and Alakazam before bringing out Gengar.

Both Shadow Ball and Sludge Bomb have higher DPS against Machamp than Psychic. Psychic is just a terrible move competitively, especially without STAB.

Unpowered legendaries aren't worth much. Anyone who was giving up a SC Gengar for one prior to this was getting scammed.

Not your thumbs down but that arguably depends on the legendary and if there was any investment in the SC Gengar beyond evolution.

I must admit you are right. Any of the weather trio, or more lately, SB Mewtwo, are good enough that getting one for a SC Gengar could be worth it. So I guess if an old-time player who took a break came back, they might see that as a good idea and I couldn't really find fault in that. Players like that probably do exist.

I for one would gladly give up a Shadow Claw Gengar for a lucky Rayquaza. Problem is I'm well over the guarantee threshold and only have one Shadow Claw Gengar (also my oldest Pokemon from 2016's Halloween) that I'll never ever give up.

I actually think this is more fair to all the trainers who missed out on SC Gengar.
