Snorlax Power Up Question

Recently caught this Snorlax. It has excellent ivs but the worst defensive move-set. Primarily I would want to use it as a defender. Is it worth powering up or would it be better to wait for one with a better move-set even if it's ivs aren't as good as this one.

For example would you rather power up this Snorlax or a 82% ZH/BS one?

Thanks in advance for replies :)

I'd go with the ZH/BS one. Even if IV are lower, they're still pretty decent and the moveset is great. What are the CP of the ZH one?

I don't actually have one. More of a theoretical question as in is it worth sacrificing 10% iv in return for a better move set.

My bad, sorry for the misunderstanding, my answer is still the same then as I've been in the same situation. Caught a ZH/EQ with 89% IV but I decided to wait and got a ZH/HB with 80% IV. I powered up the last one and has 2800 PC now (I'm lvl 29).

Sorry I was not exactly clear, my bad. I rephrased ir so it should be better now.

For me a ZH/BS takes about 10-15 secs longer to beat over a L/EQ. Mayb costs an extra super potion if im in a hurry.

whats your level? if you reach 38+ you should find 98-100% IV or you can't get cp 3300++ snorlax.

if you let me choose i will power up 93%. why? because battling gym with lick is better than with zen headbutt. eventhough you have earthquake as charge moves, you still get higher cp than the 82%.

Think of it this way - if both of those mons were maxed and put in the same gym, the 82% one would get kicked out first even though its moves are better.

True and it's not like a maxed out Snorlax is ever a bad defender whatever the moves.

It would depend on what you wanted to use him for. For defense, the ZH/BS one is far better while the L/EQ one is better for offense. Personally, I find Snorlax to be a better defender than attacker, so I am always on the lookout for ZH/BS ones.

Personally, I think CP (and by extension gym position) is something people worry about more than necessary. In my experience (which is to say it may be different where you are), gyms are typically cleared out entirely, not chipped away at over time. That's because gyms are usually attacked by different teams interested in putting their own mons in there and they can't put any in unless they wipe it out.

That said, a gym will occasionally be dropped a little bit by someone's secondary account so they can put one of their own mons in from their primary account, but that is less common. Moreover, even lower-CP, high-level snorlaxes tend to be in the top half of gyms since snorlax's max-CP is greater than anything other than Dragonites and Mewto.

tldr;

If you want a defense snorlax, power up the ZH/BS one. If you want offensive snorlax, power up the L/EQ one.

Thanks for the reply :) I see what you mean as long as you're not the bottom mon then you will most likely be safe but if a determined attacker comes along it doesn't matter where you're placed he will take down the whole gym.

Where I live, bottom mons get knocked off often while a much higher cp mon gets put in.
Having a mon above 3000k is absolutely necessary to stay in certain towers.
Other gyms in town turn over multiple times a day, so if you want to get into lots before cashing out, a good defending snorlax may buy a few extra minutes.....

This is the only one Snorlax moveset I would 'never' power up.
I would rather power up an 82% or even 60% IV.

This all just depends on your area of play...

There is a LOT of CP creep in my area and you see gyms regularly with minimum mons of 2700+ now...and what's nice is there are actually SPOTS in them!

Even that being the case, this makes it so I really have NO mons to even bother prestiging these gyms since there are really only 5 that would work for most folks in the level 30 range. Also, gym swiping is a problem and having it happen to you, it's annoying as crap.

If your area is like mine, and I think as the game continues to go on with MORE gym battlers and LESS gym spots, CP is king and until that changes, I plan to only power up the best IV mons to use as gym defenders...

An attacker won't care that you have ZH/BS or Lick/EQ really.

I attack gyms daily in my route/errands and even if it costs me 1 more potion or revive, I get plenty since I hit 20+ stops a day easy.

Again, this all depends on your area, but 93% is very high and your Snorlax is also decent level.

One thing is you also have to look at the stat distribution since if the other lower IV has max attack and weak stamina, it may even have higher CP at the same level.

That makes it easier to choose. You can also check what the max for the level is and how much it's off...

80% to 90% isn't that big of a difference like a 0% vs 100% Dragonite (like near 400CP there) so with more info, you can make a more informed decision...

The difference between a 0% and 100% Dnite is NOT 400 cp. There are literally articles linked about this on this page. Edjumacate urself, yes do it now. I think its around 200-240 cp in general but with Dnite the difference between 0% and 100% is about 270CP.

I think you can power that one up to max especially if you dont hatch many eggs. I might even trade you my 66% 5.14.13 (ADS) ZH/BS Lax for yours.

Actually, go here:
https://pokemongo.gamepress.gg/cpcalc#/

Plug in Level 30, Dragonite, put 15 15 15, then do again for 0 0 0 ...
100% is 3070 CP
0% is 2693 CP
At level 30, 3070 - 2693 is 377...Close to 400...

At level 40, this becomes:
0% 3141CP
100% 3581CP
this is now 440 CP...At level 39, it's still over 400+.

Yes, you stand corrected...and are wrong...which is ok, we all learn from each other.

Ok both corrected and wrong it is lol. I looked at another resource not GP. I didnt know the IV portion of CP increased with level, this is new information to me. Thanks for the correction.
