Both are good on defense. I would favour body slam slightly more than hyperbeam but even if hyperbeam is dodged, it will still do decent damage and if you miss 1 dodge on a hyperbeam you are f***ed.

As others have said, I prefer BS on defence. Infuriating to dodge, especially with the levels of battle lag I am experiencing at the moment!

From field experience, BS is a lot tougher at lower levels and certainly prestiging - forget about it. However once the Snorlax gets way up there (say above 2900), HB gains superiority because you are going to have to deal with it twice or more and even if you dodge, it is substantial. Plus in order to not time out, the attacker will keep going into the windup and often miss the dodge.

While I agree that snorlax gets to use HB more with higher CP. Body slam will also be use more on higher level.

Anything with zen headbutt is pretty good on defense. lick & body slam can also be use for defense. lick/HB for attacking. I would immediately transfer any lick/earthquake.

Never xfer for snorlax candy unless it's a double candy event or something. It's too rare.

A Snorlax with the worst moveset as a gym defender is harder to take down other than possibly a Lapras and a Chansey.

Defenitely not. Lapras with any moveset is better than Lick/EQ snorlax

You misinterpreted what I said. I said besides Lapras and Chansey a Lick/Eq Snorlax is harder to take down than just about any other defender.

Depends on the cellular quality at a particular gym. HB takes advantage of any inherent lag, whether from cellular signals or game servers. If a dodge happens to be mistimed (or even completely missed sometimes), it's either lights out or a huge chunk taken out of their HP. But in a perfect gameplay setting, BS is the better defensive move.

Depends on the length of the fight and skill of the attacker. If the battler is dodging every BS and HB, then in a longer battle HB may in fact pull ahead. One HB is basically equal to three BS, so in a battle where Snorlax uses HB 2-3 times, depending on RNG it may be preferable to Body Slam -- and as you approach 3300 CP with Snorlax the likelihood of using three HB increases.

Definitely prefer body slam. It happens quickly, and there seems to be a bug in the game that it doesn't give you the usual warning ("Snorlax has used Body Slam!") that it does with most charge moves. Hyper beam gives you plenty of warning and it's pretty easy to dodge, although it does pretty decent damage even if dodged.

Thank you for the information. Just hatched my 4th Snorlax with L/BS and powered it up. My other 3 have L/HB. No ZH so far for me...
