My local nest went Sneasel with the latest rotation. Is he useful for anything? Does he evolve in future generations?

In Gen 4 he evolves into Weavile which should be fairly strong (2815 cp at level 40), but not much use in its current form.

I'd be on the hunt for a couple of decent IV ones and at least a hundred candy. With his dual typing, Weavile could be viable as a Dark or an Ice attacker, so you may want one of each.

If you have an overabundance of pokeballs or Razzberries, then Sneasel is GREAT. You'll toss 3+ balls and use 3+ berries to catch one. Sneasel's are great for freeing up space in your bag for Revives and Potions.

Agree, they are about as difficult to catch as the stronger Murkrows, and about as useful (also has a Gen4 evolve).

Like Skywalkered mentioned, Sneasel evolves into Weavile in Gen4. In the main series Weavile is very useful due to its extremely fast speed (faster than alakazam) but due to the fact that speed is underrepresented in Go, Weavile most likely won't be AS useful in Go. Also having a double weakness to fighting as well as having 6 additional weaknesses also hurts it. If Niantic chooses to upgrade and revamp the battle system then there will probably be more use. It has a decent attack stat so to answer your question it would probably be worth your while to have as an ice attacker?

Although with the release of gen 4, Mamoswine is also there, which is a better ice attacker than Weavile, so weavile has a niche use as a dark attacker and, well, Tyranitar

So Weavile will not have that much use in Pokemon Go
