Sneaky good lucky gambles

I just obtained a lucky Rhydon, started 2963 and ended up 3018+luck. If you have 500-800 Rhydon candy and 6 or so 2850 to 2975cp wouldn't it be worth the gamble to get one of them a lucky upgrade?

As a marginal gym tower player I put dust into high level wilds (65% to 84%) to jump ahead of some Snorlax and vapes---got use during Raikou but completely outclassed by Groudon (1 level 37 and 7 level 25s). Throwing 3 or 4 Rhydons into the lucky fountain to see if they can surf seems like a good gamble, imo
