Slowbro as Gym defender

In the updated Gym Defender Tier List Slowbro is promoted to a position just after Snorlax and Lapras (and on same level as executor, vaporeon, dragonite). As a frequent user of a C/P Slowbro as gym defender from july on i wonder if other trainers who use Slowbro share the same experience as me.

first my Slowbro is the king of the battles won in my neighbourhood (no other pokemons come close, sometimes you see 1 or 2 battles won but never 6 (maybe this is common in other areas)) So his presence in the defender list is absolutely justified.

But on the downside;
- If I place my slowbro in a low level gym, this gym is never ever prestiged. So it really is not good this way (I assume it can be levelled with an executor but this never happens)
- If I place my slowbro in a high level gym it sits at the bottom and if this goes to level 10 most of the times it is removed (probably by dual accounts or legit teams of different teams) and replaced by high cp vaporeon,rhydon...

Do you guys have same experience? Do you think Slowbro deserves its Tier 2 position? I haven't seen game press explaining why they changed the defender tier list (it appears they don't give a lot of weight on the max cp level, but for me this is important otherwise you get kicked out of the gym)

I breed a 100%iv slowdude and evolved to the slowman with C/P. Its not bad at all, but i dont think its worthy to spend dusts. Just if you dont have any other good defender, or you caught him lvl 25+.

Also is a problem with the candies, because Slowking will come. Some day.

Glad to see Slowbro bumped up on the list. He's got access to a double-psychic move and has better defense stats than Exeggutor. He may not hit as hard as Exegg, but totally justified as a higher tier defender. His only downside is being on the lower levels of any gym nowadays.

I like the fact that he is a long term investment. It's a must that you max him out to get his CP as high as possible. I don't care when other mons break 2500 or 3000, but I'm close to breaking 2300 with him and it will make me very happy.

He's tough with a great moveset. It's up to the player to overcome his only downfall. I understand that some areas he's just too low, but not all.

I agree - as long as it's possible for allies (or defectors on enemy teams) to knock out the bottom pokemon and easily replace with a Rhydon (or other high CP but really weak defending pokemon) stuff like Slowbro won't be viable.

I don't even see him as a top tier threat. Jolteon can handle him easily I'd imagine? Exeggutor obviously. I'd suspect Tangela would even be fine (one of the few usable grasses that doesn't have poison typing and hence no weakness to psychic). Then there's your point on prestiging which is obviously true.

To me, CP is the primary need for a defender. People won't be deterred by the pokemon in the gym, only the amount of battles it takes to bring it down. MAYBE Snorlax, Lapras, and Chansey are exceptions to that statement, but I've never seen more than 4 of those in the same gym.

IF the system is fixed to prevent allied-knock-outs AND you have some friends to put together a gym with then I could see Slowbro and Poliwrath having a spot in gyms. I don't see it with the current system though, unless you're a significantly higher level than other players in your area. If a top-tier defender is on the bottom of a gym it's not a deterrent at all because you just beat it once and then it's gone. You'd need a bunch of stuff below it to make it more annoying.

This x2. Slowbro is one of my favorites and would love to see it on gyms more, but the low CP doesn't allow it to last long.
Slowbro's CP hit didn't help much either.

I have a similar experience with Poliwrath. Unfortunately didn't get a slowbro with optimal defensive moves. I'd love to, and would max it out, for sure

I love my Slowbro C/IB, it's not the perfect moveset but I'm happy with it. He's sitting proud around 2270 and I will always make sure to find a gym for him and yes it sucks being always near the bottom side of a gym but at least I'll know I put something worthwhile in. The same goes for my Poliwrath (B/HP).

Before the CP changes, I had a Vaporeon in a gym for over a month because the gym was filled with Slowbro (4 or 5) and people generally left it alone. Once the gym was torn down it became a battleground again and it still is.

first, 6 battles won?? that's amazing, congrats! as to the question, i'm with you (and the other commenters) 100%. i love slowbro, he's one of my favorite pokemon, so i do put my 88.9%IV C/P slowbro into gyms as a defender. however, all the criticisms of him are true-- his low CP hurts. at Level 33, i have plenty of the high CP glass cannons to put into gyms, but since the gyms in my neighborhood change hands every 20 min or so, i'm gonna just enjoy the game and max out/show off my favorites! for example, i also put my 95.6%IV ice shard/blizzard cloyster into gyms... haha
