Should I power this Snorlax up?

So, I'm at level 27 and I finally got my first Snorlax (I seem to have really rotten luck with my 10 km eggs). And of course this Snorlax has rotten moveset: Zen Headbutt + Earthquake. He's 88 % IV (10-15-15) so pretty good stats, and I got 18 candy in the egg. However, he's only power 1733 and level 39 (or 19.5), which doesn't seem super high compared to my trainer level. So my question is, should I use the 18 candy to upgrade this Snorlax, or should I pray that I won't have to wait another 27 levels before I get another one in an egg, and wait for one with better moves and save the candy for that one?

I am the same as you although I had to catch mine. Crap moves and medium level. Only difference is that your IV is better. Personally I am going to hold off. He has done well sitting in gyms and I plan to keep him doing that and power up a more useful one for the future.

I would wait. I experienced the same. I got my first Snorlax with that moveset from a 10km egg, only that is was 76% IVs.

The temptation of powering it up was REALLY big, assuming it would take an eternity so I can got another one. But I took a breath and hold off.

Thing is, 3 days later, I hatched another 10km eggs, what was inside ? Another Snorlax, 91% IVs, with Zen/Hyper Beam. So I used all the candies I had from the previous hatch plus this one, and I have it maxed out right now.
I know, I was extremely lucky, but you never know!

Its up to you. Earthquake is the worst charge attack for Snorlax. Even tho it has nice IVs, I would definitly wait.

Thanx yeah, I hope to get more lucky and get another Snorlax before too long. This one most likely won't be a top Pokemon either way, because I won't be able to max him out with only those 18 candy. sigh I've been wanting a Snorlax for SO long, and now I'm disappointed with the one I got.

Oh well, guess I'll have to pray that I won't have to go through quite as many Hitmonchans and Onyxes before the next one shows up. XD

All eggs hatch at level 20 if your trainer level is equal to or higher than 20, so your Pokémon should be level 20 rather than 19,5.

Your moveset is not horrible, it will still perform well especially on defense. If I were you though, I'd wait until you're level 30 and see if you happen to find anything better.

Thanx for the reply. Might be level 20, not strong in figuring that out, I put it into an IV calculator site that said level 39. Either way, didn't know they hatched at fixed level depending on your trainer level, thought it was random within a range. Will it keep hatching at level 20 once I reach trainer level 30, or will it make a jump then?

The level of pokemon in eggs depends on your trainer level at the time you gather the egg from a pokestop (so if you've been holding onto eggs you got when you were level 5, the pokemon that hatch will be level 5 max). I'm not sure how much of a range there is, but I know there IS the hard cap. Furthermore, the max level of pokemon that come out of eggs is level 20. That means any levels you gain as a trainer above 20 won't affect what hatches from your eggs.

If I were you, I'd go ahead and power up this Snorlax. He'll still be a very highly placed defender in gyms. If you ever get another Snorlax, you can then make this one your buddy to get candies and power up the other Snorlax.

Making a Snorlax my buddy for candy to power him up is not exactly appealing, though. Those 5 km for each candy really hurts, and I still need to deal with those 30-something candy I need for my Kabutops. XD

You don't need to tell ME that 5 km buddies are a drag! ;-D For the past two weeks I've been walking over 10 km/day collecting Dratini candies to upgrade my Dragonite (that's the only way to do it around here, as Dratinis don't spawn where I live).

Given how rare Snorlaxes are, it could conceivably be another 3 months or more before you hatch another one (and there's no guarantee the moveset will be any better, even if you do). In that time you could easily get your Kabutops and recoup all of those candies you spent.

Earthquake may be the easiest to dodge attack in game. I understand your frustration, I'm level 30 and have never hatched one, and my level 24 son has hatched two and my level 22 son has hatched like 3 10k eggs and has hatched both a Snorlax and Lapras, which I also have never hatched!

Ok enough rambling. I prolly wouldn't, he's prolly best served as a gym trainer. You have far better luck than me! Prolly hatch another next week!

Some people say that earthquake is really hard to dodge, because they can't see the yellow flash from the actual attack animation. I guess it depends on your device, I don't have this problem though.
