Should I care about Pokemon gender?

I never changed my keep vs. transfer approach after Pokemon genders were introduced, but I'm starting to wonder if I should. For Mons that evolve, I currently keep ones with 91%+ IV and also whatever one has the highest CP. Same rules apply for evolved Mons, though moveset becomes a consideration.

Should I start applying that approach to each gender of a species? Meaning I would independently keep the highest CP and highest IV variants of the males and females of a species.

I am not familiar with the importance/value of breeding in the main series (presumably breeding is the reason for the introduction of genders), so I would like to know how other trainers are preparing for it. Also, I have gleaned from other threads that my 100% IV Ditto may significantly alter how I approach breeding.

Keep rare female pokemon. The female determines the species. Male pokemon with good movesets might also be worth keeping as moves are transferred by the male.

Also, keep Dittos with good IVs. Ditto's can breed with any pokemon, male or female to produce a non-Ditto offspring.

Nope... as of gen 6, males can transfer natures, and females can transfer moves (they removed the ability to transfer TM moves thou).

Not one bit, as of gen 6, you don't need any specific gender, just one pokemon of the species, and a ditto.

Also CP (level) doesn't matter, what matters are individual IV's, in the main game series you usually look for parents that have 2 IV's at 31 (max value in those games), breed them to get those IV's into an offspring, then swap the parent for the next breed to the offspring that has 3 or 4 perfect IV's and repeat until you get the 5 (or 6) IV's you want at 31 or at the value you need for hidden power.

Having never played the Gameboy versions, is a ditto "used-up" after a single breeding? Or can a single ditto be a mare/stud for a limitless supply of pokemon? (Sorry for any thread-jacking).

Yes, they are very promiscuous, even incestuous...
