Scizor vs Steelix?

After spinning only 10,708 pokestops, I FINALLY got my second evolution item, metal coat, and I'm trying to decide which to evolve (since apparently it will be a loooong time until I see another one). Other than just getting the Pokedex entry, which mon might be more useful as a niche attacker or prestiger? I have 138 Scyther candy and 54 Onix candy. My candidates:

Scyther cp 1705 lvl 25 78IV 13A/9D/13S which would get a Scizor to lvl 33.5 cp 2467

Scyther cp 1384 lvl 20 89IV 14/14/12 which would get a Scizor to lvl 32 cp 2441

OR: Onix cp 547 lvl 20 11/12/15 which would get a
Steelix to lvl21 cp1421

You've spun over 10k stops since gen 2? That's insane.

You will eventually be able to evolve all of them my choice is #1. Even w/ 78% Ivs that's a really high level Scizzor and you could instantly use it as a fun attacker w/ any moveset. Steelix is an awesome Pokemon, but it seems to be more of a defensive Pokemon than an attacking one. If you have enough defenders I would like to add more attackers for fun on my team.

Steelix is very good trainer. From a fun point of view, he looks awesome and unique in battle. Unless you need a Scyther, I would go with Steelix.

Scyther#1.

Not a fan of Steelix. No teeth. Mine will time out when prestiging against Snorlax (iron tail/earthquake, dodging all movees).

I was hoping it would be a good Snorlax counter, but that didn't work out.

Tail moves are slow and you only get one in between dodges. It's hard to dodge only body slam. I might have better luck with a hyper beam Snorlax.

After the changes to no longer getting them on 7 day streak I was able to get 4 on one trip to the city centr, 2 of which were in a row. 2 King's rock, 1 metal coat and 1 sun stone. I've used 3 but I'm waiting on a 90+ iv scyther before I evolve.

Definitely evolve the 89% scyther it has good stats and is only 26cp lower compared to the 78 one. Steelix is a decent defender but has a low max cp so I'd hold off if it's not a Pokémon you want. The 78% iv regardless of its iv w/o evolving is still decent for prestige purposes.

Evolve the Scyther into Scizor. In my opinion Scizor is a better steel attacker than Steelix, is still useful with a bug type moveset, and neither are that good as defenders.

I would evolve the higher level Scyther and save yourself 28 candies (the amount to take a Pokemon from 20 to 25). The IVs are so similar that you will not notice a difference in gameplay, and the CP difference won't really matter because you'll mostly be using it for attacking.

I have the same situation, I chose Scizer, but unluckly, the move is not good: the first is steel, the second is dark. Do you know how to get more items to envolve other?
