Scizor about to be the best counter type?
This is a little guide/reason I think scizor is going to be a great counter type Pokémon for attacking gyms. Now some people are saying "Steel is the best move set you can get on scizor" which is not the case. Since scizor is both a bug/steel type Pokémon that means you will get stab on both regardless but each has a different counter match up and faster EPS etc.
Quick Moves:
Bullet Punch - CD 0.90/ EPS 11.11/ 10.00 DPS and 12.50 DPs w/STAB
Fury Cutter - CD 0.40/ EPS 15.00/ 7.50 DPS and 9.38 w/STAB
Charge Moves:
X-Scissor - CD 1.60/ EPU -33/ DPS 28.13 and 35.16 w/STAB
Iron head - CD 1.90/ EPU -50/ DPS 31.58 and 39.47 w/ STAB
Night Slash - CD 2.20/ EPU -33/ DPS 22.73
This is also from the game press website so thank them for this, but as you can see yes steel type moves do more DPS but the EPS and CD are night and day. Now for counter match ups..
Now this is where the bug type move sets shine, you get 1.25x dmg against grass, psychic and dark type Pokémon which are all very common in gyms nowadays where as with the steel move set is only 1.25x dmg against ice, rock and fairy type Pokémon which aren't too common in gyms besides maybe a lapras or golem.
So in my conclusion I think scizor with a bug type move set will be a better counter match up but maybe a scizor with a steel type move set will be better for defending? Let me hear what you guys think.

Everything about Scizor looks great, except for his moves. He just doesn’t have anything that really stands out as really powerful against the tanks that hold gyms. So I agree that his typing, attack stats, and even move types are phenomenal but his movesets, regardless of what type, have much to be desired. He just doesn’t have “the best” of any move types.
I disagree completely. Two of the types bug crits into are grass and psychic. I am waiting for a metal coat to evolve one, but once I find one, I am hoping for double bug moves. If so, it will be my go to Exeggutor eater. The moves may not be OP, but the high speed attack added to resistance to psychic and double resistance to grass added to the bonus damage will probably take Exeggutor down a Tier on the defenders list once more people start evolving them.
In terms of battling gyms, I agree. However with PvP on its way, I believe moves that require less amounts of energy as well as shorter cooldown times will be more ideal, as switching will, I assume, be a big proponent as it has been in the main series, even though these are different styles of gameplay. Scizor's access to to 2 stab charge moves, both will 50% or less energy cost with short cooldowns.
The switching is just an assumption but based on that and the said attributes for 2 of its charge moves, I believe scizor will be an invaluable asset when battling is released.
Scizor (BP/IH), machamp (counter/dp or cc) and exeggutor (*/Solar) have 1 thing in common, they are the only guys that i've simmed outside of dragonite and tyranitar that can solo pwn a same level blissey just by dodging charge moves. Steel moves Scizor is just that good... havent got to testing bug moves yet but I'll bet its all awesome.
A Piloswine (PS/A) can also take down a similar level Blissey (my level 30 took down a level 28/29 Blissey with room to spare). Add in that Piloswine is very low CP for his level and that makes him the best Blissey prestiger in my opinion (also in my area Swinubs are everywhere so powering multiple Piloswine to max level is easy).
I think Vaporeon and Rhydon can too (although Blissey's moveset matters for Rhydon).
Out of the "Top defenders":
- He resists steel and rock, takes neutral from dark, but he can be caugh with his pants down by fireblast, and either moveset deals SE damage
- He will resists Dragonite, Snorlax and blissey's best defending movesets, so you'll probably don't need to dodge much, but since he doesn't deal SE damage the battle might not be as one sided as you think, but it's probably still a good choice using the highest raw DPS moveset.
- Do not get anywhere near a vaporeon or gyarados
- Rhydon: No SE damage, but resists rock moveset, not the best matchup, but decent
- Donphan is neutral, so there's probably better options
- Espeon is a cake walk for Scissor with bug moveset
So you basically get favorable matchups against Blissey, Snorlax, Dragonite and Espeon, and depending on the moveset he can have a good matchup against tyranitar, all of that added makes him a good all around attaker.
2 Scizors atm, FC/XS and BP/IR. Transfered one Night Slash.
BP was fun before the move update, mainly because FC was really bad. After the update FC has highest EPS and attack speed. The XS spam is insane, your charge bar is never empty. Its not the best charge move in the game, but its one of the fastest. After a dodge, you can easily use XS and dodge again. Blissey melts aswell.
FC Scizor has been the most fun i have ever had in this game.
About the "best" moveset, i have no idea, and frankly i dont care. They are close enough to enjoy bug spam.
I'm about to evolve my first Scyther and I'm pretty pumped. I think Scizor is super cool. I just don't know what moveset I want. He will pretty much be an attacker.
Having a full steel attack set would be good but so many Psychic mons where I live bug would be king.
Now my question is, do I evolve my 2008CP (87%) Scyther or my level 20 13xx (96%) one. Dust is limiting factor here as I just powered up two Blisseys to level 34.5.
The first one I could use right away with minimal/little dust investment.
Final CP difference would only be 20CP at level 34.5 surprisingly. I thought it would be higher
