Saving Special Items?
So of course I am always running out of bag space. Although they are not taking up tons of space, I am always wondering about the "special items" (I don't know what else to call them.) I have never thrown any away, but I am not sure if they are going to be needed in the future. Annoyingly, I have also collected a couple more in the past couple days after not seeing any for a while. Is there any reason to hang on to these? For original Pokemon game players - do you know if these come up again in the future?
I have:
9 Sun Stones
6 King Rocks
16 Metal Coats
6 Dragon Scales
1 Upgrade

I would dump evolution items before TMs.
The Sun stone is the only one with future use in the main series games. There are two pokemon in Gen5 and one in Gen6 that evolve with sun stone. That is quite a while away, and they are unlikely to be meta-relevant pokemon, so I'm not even worried about holding onto extra sun stones. I've started just evolving Sunkerns, then transferring.
Dragon Scale is the only one I'll keep - it will help to your dragon medal since not many have achieved the gold medal for Dragon medal (even myself, who is almost Level 40 and live in a biome with reasonable dratini spawn).
That being said though, most should complete it by the dratini event in a few weeks. So you can forget about farming horsea.
Now that I've used all of the Upgrade Items to get the Dex Entries, I only keep 2 of everything but the Metal Coats; I keep 6 Metal Coats. I keep 2 of each just in case I get a Perfect that I want to evolve using those items.
If it turns out that they become more useful (like used for evolving more than just Porygon for the Upgrade and the Dragon Scales for Seadra, for example) I'll start keeping more of them.
