Right now the game calls for specialists. If PvP ever arrives, what are some of the random move keepers/gems?
Note: not going to throw anything away but, Would a Confusion/Seed bomb Exeggutor be one? Common thought Blizzard Kyogre becomes valuable, but what are some other tanky Pokémon that have varied movesets that can actually get charge moves off? Seems Alolan Golem with Volt Switch and Rock Blast would be great. If the time comes, switching Latios to ZH/DC seems to be a small investment + coverage option, too. Any other ideas/possibilities?
TL: Now specialists are essential; what are some screwball combos that can provide a small hiccup in a PvP setting?
***Even if PvP is just simultaneously fighting the computer’s version of your team vs the computer’s version of someone else’s team and seeing who finishes faster. Just syncing for trading is sometimes laggy/delayed, real-time dodging while synced seems a pretty ambitious expectation

It depends a lot on how winning happens. If time isn't a factor, you probably want bulky mons with good neutral damage, slow fast moves and fast charge moves. DT/DC Dragonite would be a good example, has favorable matchups against most types, very good damage output both offensively and defensively.
Or if it's just a gym battle against the opponent's team and fastest time wins, you want a team of optimized specialists that can cover all possible types and kill fast, while being bulky themselves.
EDIT: Thought about it a bit, in a DPS-centric PvP, Rayquaza and C/SB Mewtwo might be autopicks. They counter their own self, meaning you don't have to worry about the opponent having them, and they can cover a lot of matchups between them with the highest and third highest neutral DPS in the game, acting as a failsafe in case your other 4 can't cover one of your opponent's pokemon with super effective damage.
Really hard to speculate on this because we don't have any reasonable assumptions on how it'll work.
Woke up and I guess I was also imagining there was a limit on Legendaries allowed in a battle party, but it wasn't stated or alluded to. If there were 1 or 2 allowed, could be Kyogre and/or Mewtwo usually picked in a gym battle vs gym battle PvP for the fastest time.
People would also put a Machamp in, I was thinking of things that could do something to the Machamp and also contribute to other pokemon w/o relying on an easy to dodge solar beam.
Well, if you bring a Mewtwo, an opposing Machamp is taken care of. Gardevoir might be good, it's countered hard by Mewtwo but not that badly by any other top attacker. Dragons also have good matchups against Machamp due to resistance and Machamp not being particularly bulky so it goes down fast even with neutral damage.
As stated by housunkannatin, it all depends on the game mechanism and winning conditions. My hope is that we will get an application of Codename: Neon, combined with upgraded occlusion technology. In which case PvP could be like LaserTag with the opponents pokemon placed in his location. In this case, fast attacks would probably be more important, the faster, the better, and DPS over EPS. Or not, one article mentions that attacks in Neon act like homing missiles, making slow and charge attacks viable. If the tournament is team vs. team, you will want pokemon that protect each others weaknesses.
