Is Rhydon still Good?

Hai,
I just evolved my rhyhorn with 97.8% ivs (15/15/14) and it became a mud slap earthquake Rhydon it's currently lv 13 and I was wondering if Rhydon with said moveset is still a good defender or attacker since gen 2's release.

Power this to appropriate levels only if you need an attacker into fire or poison types would be my advice, or another Pokémon to throw into a gym for the placement. Kinda a low level to start at but given you've got the stardust and candies, near perfect IVs and great moveset sound promising (Rhydon doesn't really have a defensive moveset)

Or electric... with Jolteon having Volt Switch and Ampharos being a thing, you may actually see Electric Mons in gyms.

Good to put in a GYM since it has a High CP... But defender? Not really.... Attacker? A better attacker...

Are you kidding? Great mon that you can use on attack due to a superb ground moveset or (eventually) as a totally top tier defender with awesome CP. Get to work on powering him up!!!

For a very brief time I thought he became a good defender not just due to his cp. it became more difficult to dodge when everything grinded to a snail's pace

Esrtquake is esdy to dodge, it deal damage toeards the end of the animation. Stone edge is hard to dodge now.

Are you sure you're playing the same game as the rest of us? Seriously though, Rhydon's never been a top tier defender.

Yes he is still good. He is still a hard counter to snorlax. Has a lot of defense and health. Your moveset is the 2nd best since they buffed stone edge also Rock Smash is a little better if you are looking for the best counter to snorlax but this is more for if you want him to attack/train gyms with snorlax in them but for all other purposes your moveset is still pretty good. I personal believe you should only put him in a gym if your cp with him is over 2400 at the very least.

*soft counter to Snorlax. A hard counter would have moves that are super-effective against Snorlax

Rhydon bad, I've never attacked with one, powered one up, or ever put one in a gym. I hate his stupid face, so bad.

I'm not a fan of Rhydon due to his weak defending performance (vs decent attack). However, having such optimal CP, I would make an exception due to its gym place movement. It's not too bad if you don't have too many of these kind of Pokemon. They'll secure you more easily some coins.

I caught a Rhydon with the same moveset and 78% IVs, and I powered him up. Why? Best Ground-attacker in the game, means he'll always have a use if you don't want to put him in a gym, which is what I did.

People say he's a bad defender, and he is. But so are most other pokemon. We're well into gen2 now and most defenders have hard counters available anyway. Yours has high IVs and will secure a good spot in a gym, while Mud slap still does good neutral STAB damage to the often preferred attacker Vaporeon.

Rhydon, with Mud Slap / EQ or SE is definitely a viable defender. Any other moves remove it from being any kind of decent defender.

Its certainly not top tiered, but definitely up there due to high CP and relatively high base stats.

Mud Slap deals a fair bit of damage and is used well by gym AI. I preffer the EQ charge move due to more damage and the confusing animation, although it is argued that SE is better. I have found both are pretty much as good as each other.

Me personally, I don't think I would have evolved a level 13 mon, (I am reluctant to even evolve lvl 20 egg hatches due to the amount of dust and candies required to get them up to min lvl 30) but it's your dust and candy, so if you want a decent defender with optimal move set, have fun powering up!

Rhydons are very popular in gyms in my city due to their huge CP. It's much easy to find him than Dragonit, Gyrados or Snorlax. Also it's very easy to prestige on them. Team players always set 1-2 Rhydons at gym, then prestige it very easy with water mons.

yes easy to prestige means it's a bad defender. I only place my 2800CP in gyms when it's going to be above 3 or 4 others. But it's so weak to water, exeggs are much better defenders IMO...
With a CP high enough to be a good gym placeholder, it's not good at prestiging. I end up using 1600CP golems with similar moves much more, so maybe you can power yours up to prestiging level (>1500CP) and see how you like it before powering him up higher.

Rhydon is a great attacker and weak on defense but only for people who dodge. Those who don't are doomed since Rhydon's moves hit hard.

Rhydon has always been underrated by people who have a big stack of Vaporeons. In the real world he's a force to be reckoned with on offense or defense.
