Mud slap hits harder than rock smash
Stone edge hits harder than earthquake
- I would personally wait for mud slap stone edge. I powered up 2 different Rhydons that didn't have MS&SE because I was impatient and I regret it. But if you absolutely have to id power up the mud slap one because of how hard it hits.
Rhydon question
Mud slap/Earthquake vs Rock smash/Stone edge:
Which rhydon would be better as a defender?

EQ, IMO, is the easiest charge move to dodge. You can dodge it so late it almost seems bugged. This makes it completely worthless as a defensive move in my book. SE comes very quick and does a load of damage. Hell, even mega horn wrecks my poor Eggy's day a lot quicker than EQ does.
For that reason I would vote for the SE one...but I would advise you to wait for a better moveset. Or, ms/eq makes a good attacker into Snorlax, so you aren't "wasting" that candy and stardust because he would be multi purpose pokemon...
I would go for RS/SE because not only would he be a fun attacker into Snorlax. But aswell it would be his best defensive set, due to being SE vs some of the top Generalist such as Snorlax, Blissey , and Tyranitar. Plus Vaporeon doesn't resist Rock Smash making it just as good as MS. Plus it has all these extra bonuses.
I have a 3081 CP mud slap - stone edge Rhydon. He's tremendously effective - great against Snorlax. He is still not one of my better defenders though, because he's vulnerable to water and everyone (at least in my area) has a whole stable of water types. The only way he stays in a gym for long is if he's close to the top.
