Rhydon Question

Thoughts on investing dust into a Rock Smash/ Earthquake Rhydon worth it? Dust isn't a issue but I am in need of a solid attacker. Save candies for a MS/SE Rhy? Or invest in this one? Fairly low CP (1800) but 90%+ appraise

First, do you have any other attacker options?

as the moves are right now, that's a pretty good attacking mon. I live in a dessert biome with rhyorns everywhere and I still don't have a high iv rhydon with ms/se. I do have a high iv rs/se though. Pre updates I never used, after this latest he's one of my favorites against snorlax. And I've seen simulations where earthquake outperformed se. One of my favorites if the game doesn't have my full attention too, he's a forgiving attacker, missed dodges aren't a problem.

earthquake is better for killing, i have tested
stone edge better for defending, more coverage

What type of attacker are you looking for? For a ground attacker, I actually prefer Sandslash (MS/EQ) because mud shot is so much quicker than mud slap and he is more than capable of handling any almost anything out there.

If you are looking for rock attacks, I would go with Golem, as he can get a rock quick attack.

The only case in which I would use a Rhydon would be specifically for Snorlax, but with the new buffs and the new fighting moves, there are many other options to use against a Snorlax.

I have a 2800 cp Rhydon (MS/EQ) and I rarely use him...It does depend on your meta, but I think there are better options.

I have a 2800 96% RS/SE Rhydon and I use him specifically for Snorlax and Blissey. While he is great for that, it is the only thing I use him for. I find when attacking other mons there is usually a better match-up/attacker that I have access too.

I would save your dust and candies. Most of my Rhydons I just put in gyms and let them sit there occupying space. I rarely use them as an attacker. I'd rather have a faster attack so I can dodge better/easier.

Whilst true, remember that not everybody have the access to that move set Pokemon. Rhydon is a decent alternative. I've one maxed out as well as Snorlax killer.

I have to drive about 15-20 mins north of where I am to get Machops. I usually don't bother. I've evolved two of them so far and have gotten terrible movesets for attacking.

So Ryhdon it is. And he works good for his use. I have like 18 Rhydons. I have another 9, 82%+ Rhyhorns and 750 candies waiting to be evolved some day. They are everywhere here. Literally everywhere.

Yes, i also use rhydons to beat blisseys and snorlaxes.
But in my test mud slap + earthquake is still little bit faster than stone edge.

So i would still only recommend stone edge for defending purposes.

Dont do it man.

I have 3 Rhydons. (att-def-sta)
level 34,5 cp3009 (13-15-14) mud slap + stone edge
level 30 cp2772 (15-9-12) mud slap + earthquake
level 29,5 cp2622 (6-14-7) rock smash + earthquake

I fight against cp1300+ chansey no dodging

level 34,5 kills chansey with 34sec left in timer
level 30 kills chansey with 36sec in timer
level 29,5 kills chansey with 32sec in timer

I would only invest in mud slap + earthquake Rhydon.

But this test was only against normal type pokemon.

Wait for a higher starting level Rhyhorn and hope when evolved it gets Mud Slap and Earthquake or Stone Edge.

If you are in a desert biome, you will find bigger Rhyhorns. Even if you have a lot of stardust, it is not worth investing too much into a low Rhydon with a suboptimal moveset.
