Reverse gym defender order

Right now, if I defeat a gym and place my defender, I'm also the first one to be fought & kicked out by attackers. That makes no sense. Shouldn't the player who went through the trouble of obtaining the gym get the best position? This matters esp because of cheaters who use second accounts to attack their own team gyms and steal gym spots.

This might be true for highly contested gyms. But imagine a rural gym, the only gym in town located at the only bus stop in town. You were the first to place your defender, and now every day five defenders are kicked out and are replaced by five new ones. Only your defender stays in and you never get any coins... Point is, the first one to be kicked out might be the best position.

First in last out doesn't solve shaving, it just makes the shavers kick out the last person instead of the first.
The 10 minute wait after a defender gets kicked is the best deterrent and making that wait longer for shavers would probably be the only thing that helps, but of course it makes active gym defense harder. Maybe making the wait 30 minutes for players who weren't in the gym already while keeping it 10 minutes for players who got kicked out might work.

Regrettably it's impossible for them to distinguish a multiaccounter who uses different devices for all their accounts so we'll never get a complete solution.

This can also slightly increase the gym turnover before an egg hatch, which is what Niantic wants to do.

Easy fix, just don't allow account switching so quickly. Mandatory 20 minute waiting period if you want to sign into a different account.
This will foremost be a huge deterrent to shavers, but more importantly not be all that bothering for families who do use multiple accounts in one phone. Son is going to play some go after homework, dad logs out now.

God I wish I could just talk to Niantic in the face.

I agree with you on the main point you raise.

This FIFO method punishes players who go through the trouble of taking down a gym. All that effort should be rewarded, and a FILO system would achieve that.

Changing order doesn't help any problem with gym shaving. A better reward for fighting gyms is to actually give a reward specifically for fighting gyms. Give coins for fighting enemy gyms, and increase this payment the longer the defenders have been in the gym so players are incentivized to tear down stagnant gyms. Either include this payment in the current 50 coin cap, or have a separate 50 coin cap for gym fighting.

Basically, do anything Niantic!

I agree.

The switch wouldn't prevent gym shaving, but it would probably reduce the shaving of players who went through the trouble of turning the gym in the first place--not benefit people who wait to profit from the work of others.

I could care less about my 50 coins, if I'm being honest. I'd much rather have gold badges for the increased rewards, and for that I need to be in the gym. It's incredibly demoralizing to take a bunch of gyms and then be the only one shaved out of them, while your "teammates" continue to profit from your time and effort.

It makes perfect sense that the person/account to claim a gym for their color would be the "gym leader" and therefore last one for an attacker to face.
Looking from the main pokemon games perspective; FIFO makes little sense.
It's not all about coins...
