In regards to water biomes and Dratini/rares

I see on here and elsewhere that some folks talk about how hard it has been for them to find Dratini. Without some careful searching and a ton of time spend carefully checking my town I would be in the same boat. It took almost two months when I first started to find good water spawns. I went (of course) to the larger known waterways near me (inland grass biome. One large river). After identifying several rather spread out water spawns along this area I found that even though it was a well mapped large river there simply were not enough cluster spawns to make the place a viable search area for Dratini. I probably checked those 5 areas that had 10 or so spawns for an entire week every day and it led to 1 or 2 Dratini. It wasn't until I started just generally searching large spawns and neighborhoods that I really found the productive areas that I needed. It turns out that some "drainage ditches" are labeled on the maps that are used to assign water spots versus the standard biome spawns. Often these ditches were underground and I could not even see them. But when they ran through good residential areas that would be cluster spawns without the water element magic happened. Eventually I nailed down two spots that were worth a daily check or even more than one check. One was a small neighborhood that had no other neighborhoods near it really. The drainage ditch line runs directly under about a 25 house streak. On this two block stretch there are about 25 cluster water spawns at any given time. I found another not too far from there that was similar but a little less prolific. It is about 15 spawns but a much shorter walk. If you checked both spots every day you would find on average about 1 1/2 Dratini a day. Crazy thing is that outside of using the OSM maps that the game is layered across you would in no way suspect these areas of being the prolific areas they are. Even then you would be unlikely to figure them to be the incredible areas they are. My question to some who say that Dratini are super rare in their areas is; are you sure that you have thoroughly explored your area? I would be saying the same thing if I had not put in the hours upon hours it took to identify and prowl these areas.

Also, do Dratini spawn at the same rare rate at all water spots or are they more rare in some water areas than others?

TLDR: I found some really great Dratini areas by thoroughly searching my town in places that you would not really expect to have any luck.

I live in a city of a couple of million people.
The only place dratini spawn with any regularity is near the coast. For me, to go to a pokemon rich part of the coast is about 45 minutes away - and even then I have never been lucky when there...although friends have been lucky on a few rare occassions there.
I am in Facebook groups, and other sites, and you can be sure the city is very much 'searched' and even 'mapped' in places (not my thing but I know they exist).
We know where they spawn, and it is no where near me...so I have become a very good buddy with a dratini.

That said, I do have a couple of walking paths that spawn waters...as it is a dry creek bed in Summer, and flodway in Winter. Also, many parks with lakes and wetlands...so I can locate every other water biome mon relatively close, just no dratini.

Dang. That sucks man. If it makes you feel better I just went through an event with zero Porygons or Chanseys and have zero chance of seeing those two or Laprases, Dragonites, Larvitars or their evolutions in the wild....ever. This area does have a pretty great general Snorlax spawn or it did before the recent addition of Gen 2. The addition of the new mons has seemed to calm the other rares quite a bit.

I did very well with Chansey...so I guess it is a little bit of give and take.
The coast does seem to be the best, at least around here - they have some spawns that don't show up often...but at least they show up for them.

Good luck with hatching those that you need. ;-)

Three hours from me on a strip along the coast you can find all of the above with general reliability. Great place to travel to I just wish I didn't have to travel to go there.

Best of luck to you as well.

I still don't have a Dragonite and dratini are extremely rare. I live in a decent size city but we are land locked with a river going through. I asked a friend who can map out where dratini spawn using a tracker and only 2-3 dratini spawn in a day in our whole city. And it could be anywhere along the river.

I don't use a tracker and while I stop by a few spots along the river every day I've still yet to see a dratini spawn.

I try to get eggs from stops along the river in order to try to get a dratini hatch but they are extremely rare.

They just don't really exist in our biome.
