The Realities of Gym....

I see bits and pieces of guys asking if this Mon or that Mon will work out or be good for a Gym... In my town... San Francisco... Highest CP's stay in the gym ( biggest Dragonites/Tyranitaurs ), ....PERIOD.. End of Discussion... I just read someone's quote, " If i wanna wreck a Gym, I will..". Any Solid Player, i'm guessing level 25 or higher, can take down ANY Gym, given time, effort, and will... Any group of 2-3 can take down a level 10 gym in MINUTES... EASILY !!! Nothing is safe... For all of you asking questions about Defense sets and skills.... Forget about it....... If you truly want to know what the best stradegy is for gyms.. I say go out and hunt down as many Dratini's or Larvitar's and max out the best IV's you get, Stuff em in the best Gym you can find , and hope the Gym itself holds on for as long as possible, or untill someone feels like crashin' it.....Good Luck....and Have a nice day everyone..

Lol. It's cool, bruh. 7 mon crack over 3k, people don't have to worry about just Dragons & Godzilla, they got a few options.

Still love my movesets tho, s/o GamePress! ???

Hehee... I love all the chat about Offensive movesets. Lots of helpful stuff in here, and i am thankful for most all the info i see in here. But gyms are prey to Attackers, especially Multiple Attackers, which make defensive movesets completely useless.. Actually unfair.! Maybe they should program a Gym Battle, if 3 guys are attacking-- 3 Defenders defend !!!.. How cool would that be !!!!!

I work in SF, and what you say is true. CP is king in areas where there is high gym turnover. I don't think anyone is disputing the fact that anyone can take down a level 10 gym if they are committed to do so. Where I disagree is where you say to forget about defense sets and skills. I think this is part of the fun of the game, and welcome that type of discussion. We should foster that type of analysis as it gives the game more depth IMO. What you believe is the best strategy may not be as relevant to other people in different areas, especially rural areas, because the gym meta can be different and dependent on someone's geographical area, which is the beauty of the game.

I agree we should hunt for the best mons to stay competitive in gym, but it's personal preference what you choose to power up and place in gyms. Currently, CP is king in most of the Bay Area, but I still refuse to power up tons of gyar and rhydon and even vapes simply bc they are high CP. I am also selective with moveset bc I like knowing I have an optimal moveset that makes it even slightly more annoying to attackers.

Who knows, maybe when Niantic revamps the gym system as they said they would, it may change the CP is King method of gym placement. So, things can change in an instant as Gen2 showed us. So, I appreciate GP's data and moveset rankings to make informed decisions on what to power up for the long game.

Just my two cents.

It's been reported that The Pokémon Co. is currently in SF working with Niantic on the next big update, doubt it was this water event and Shinies. I live in NYC, so I know the struggle. We'll just have to be patient, and see.

Yah, heard that report when TainerTips Nick tried to break in Niantic HQ... haha. A good sign when Niantic consulting with Pokemon Co.

Did you know that shinys were included in "minor text fixes" part? Shinys AREN'T a minor thing :/

Hanke said 1 major update per Quarter, we'll still in the 1st, and Gen 2 was released, means we have 3 more, so that is why I doubt Shinies was a major update I'm referring to. The next 3 I'd guess are Gym Rework, PvP, and Gen 3.

I like the idea that making a gym more painful to take down with diverse mons and good defensive move sets discourages attackers from taking down the next gym and the next and the next, by consuming more potions, revives, and most importantly TIME. I play solo and do a lot more prestiging than attacking, to keep 10-12 gyms per day and ensure my 100 daily coins. BUT when I decide to take down a level 10 gym, I'm NOT stopping until it's down, that only helps the other team to snipe off the lower CP mons. So your 3000+ Dnite or Tyranitar is just as kicked as a 2700 Eggy. The question is how many Snorlax and Blissey do I have to plow through to knock off the Dragonite cherry on top?

yep the number and strength of the Blisseys are the main thing that will turn me away under 2800 is not to bad but once there are a couple of 2800 you look for softer targets.

high enough CP to sit above a couple is useful and the higher the CP the less likely you are to get shaved which is very common at the moment.

As much as I agree with this current assessment of the gym meta, I think it a mistake to count on it always being that way.

The issue with gyms is that they are too easy to shave and the reward for an all-clear is pitiful by comparison. A smaller prestige drop form each battle coupled with a larger all-clear bonus would do wonders for the meta.

SF or any other American city has nothing on Tokyo, Japan I wonder how their Gym scene works. Does it stay for more than 2-3 mins ? Lol
