Rayquazza Prep - Articuno Question

Hi All,

I'm starting to think about preparing for Rayquazza and want to beat him in as small of a group as possible, so want a strong squad. I have a number of lvl 30 or so Piloswines and Cloysters which are solid but am considering finally powering up an Articuno.

Has anyone powered one up and are they satisfied with it? It's either him, Ho Oh, or Moltres as I like legendary diversity (already have a powered up Entei so that's similar to Moltres).

Curious to hear people's thoughts on Articuno and preparing for Rayquazza. Also have a perfect lvl 13 Piloswine tempting me as well...

I would not invest so much on Articuno.
Since Rayquaza has Rock Tomb move, Articuno will turn into a smoothie.

To follow up with ancient power, that piloswine would be a solid investment because it’s ground typing neutralizes it’s weakness to rock. Aaand it evolves into mamoswine next generation; I think it’s a solid investment

Love my Arti. No regrets in maxing it out. If you already have Entei, you've got legendary Fire covered, and Ho-Oh for me is an Oh-No. Articuno is the strongest all-around Ice battler currently in the game, and if you're going to have a small squad, you can't go wrong with it. Yes, it will not enjoy Rayquaza's Ancient Power, but you can see that winding up from a mile away, and you're not going to encounter it 2/3 of the time.

Seeing it from a mile away doesn't help with the dodge glitch still around.

I'm going to power one up. The rest of the team can be made up of Cloyster/Walrein/Jynx/Lapras. Don't overestimate Ancientpower - it is low base power, no STAB, and 3.5s cooldown. It's even worse than Crunch on Gyarados! I think Outrage will be the one to look out for.

Yes, even with Articuno with double weakness, it can survive after two AP with dodging if you are lucky enough. Outrage is the only charge move that is difficult to deal with as most glass cannons are not able to survive after it.

Don't forget the dodge bug, you dodge in raids, if it was about to kill you, you still die.

Thanks guys - appreciate the input. Feel good about powering up both of those slowly over the next month or so.

And not too worried about ancient power as someone pointed out. Articuno is still a top 5-6 option in terms of TDO in those matchups.

I’m slowly powering up my 96% Articuno too! Thinking about my 100% Lapras and 96% Walrein too...

A friend of mine and I are preparing for it so we can 2 man it. Gotta power up this.

Not good against ancient power, good against everything else.

I have no idea why people are jumping to the conclusion that Articuno will perform poorly vs Ancient Power. It has the 13th highest defense in the game. The biggest knock again Articuno has always been it's attack and definitely not it's survivability, but with double effective attacks it'll be fine.

A lv 30 Articuno will perform the same as a lv 30 Dragonite vs AS/Ancient Power and better vs DT/AP. VS DT/outrage a Lv 30 Articuno will perform the same as a LV 40 Dragonite.

If you can afford it. It is worth it. Additionally, it is the best ice attacker, only Jynx has a faster TTW, but THAT is an option that is light on survivability.

What about Kyogre with Blizzard? Would he be useful?
