Ralts Question

Hi, guys. In a bit of a conundrum right now. I got a 10km egg about three days ago, and finally hatched it yesterday evening. It turned out to be a Ralts with 98% IVs! While I'm very happy about that, the attack IV is sadly on the short end of the stick with 14 ATK, and to be honest, while it is just a one point difference to 15 ATK, I am a bit hesitant in having a Gardevoir with 14 ATK.

Also, the Ralts is a male. If I'm not mistaken, Gallade is only obtainable through a male Ralts, and I personally would prefer a female Gardevoir in my team, since I only keep one of each Pokémon. I don't have a Gardevoir yet, but I have more than enough candies right now in which I could put into this 98% Ralts to get my first one, if I wanted to.

Been trying to decide what to do since I've hatched the little guy, but I'm having trouble choosing an option. What do you guys think? Would it be better to hold unto this Ralts for when Gen 4's Gallade eventually appears, or should I go ahead and evolve him to Gardevoir, instead? Would having a Gardevoir with 14 ATK really hinder its performance in gym battles/raids, or is it not that big of a deal? Thanks in advance!

You want to know if attack value of 251 being less than 252 is a big deal?

It's actually 198 vs 199 at level 40, but the point stays it's a small difference.

And then it is multiplied by the CPM which brings it down to 199 (15 IV) or 198 (14 IV).

I don’t know what a CPM is, but if it is a constant for Ralts, no single number would change a ratio of 251/252.

14 vs 15 attack makes little to no difference with Confusion.

Attack IV does not make much of a difference for Gardevoir because its best fast move is Confusion, which has a lot of low-impact breakpoints rather than one or two high-impact ones. I would not worry about 14 attack hindering its performance. This could change if it gets a fast low power fairy fast move in the future, but the likelihood of that is small since Niantic would either have to deviate from only allowing moves in the original movepools or retcon an existing fairy charge move into a quick move.

Gallade will certainly evolve only from male Kirlia and will likely require an evo item too. It has potential to challenge Machamp looking at stats and its typing makes it different (EDIT: I thought it was fighting/fairy). But I would personally not hold a 98% Ralts for a year waiting for a pokemon that might be good if it gets a good moveset when you could have an amazing Gardevoir right now. But since you want to keep only one of each pokemon it's a lot more complicated decision.

Thanks for the input! You do have a point with Confusion's low-impact breakpoints. I haven't yet decided, but I'm leaning towards evolving it to Gardevoir. I seldom get 10km eggs or find wild Ralts around, either, so I'll very likely do it.

I pretty much stopped powering up L20 mons with the exception of legendaries. I would wait and try to catch a L30+ Ralts with 15 attack and then evolve. If you want one now, then it is hard to go wrong with a 98. I doubt you will notice the difference.

Thanks! I usually get windy weather around here, so it's not impossible to find a lvl 30 Ralts with 15 ATK in the wild.

Do it if you have dust to power it up.

Okay, going to evolve it to Gardevoir! Who knows how long Gen 4's release will be, and I want to try out Gardevoir right now, too. Hopefully, I can find or hatch another Ralts with similar IVs and 15 ATK someday. Thanks again, guys! :)

Ralts are 50/50 male/female, so males aren't rare. At least not any more rare than females.
