Raids - Does the whole group win or lose together?
I assume this is the case, but something went seriously wrong earlier this evening.
My husband finally agreed to try a raid (he's a much more casual player than I am, level 31 compared to my 35, especially since the lapras nerf, which affected him). We found a tier 3 Machamp raid with 30 minutes left in a Mystic gym. I'm Mystic, he's Valor (we were clueless noobs when we picked teams), but this shouldn't matter (right?) He really wanted a good Machamp.
So we lined up our attackers - dragonites, gyarados and exeggutors mostly - and fought him. My d'nites got whacked by his charge move, but my husband's exeggutor got him good with SB and the fight ended in the last second (all his attackers had fainted with seconds to spare, but my exeggutor was able to defeat the boss). Then something went horribly wrong.
I got a message "You win!", 5 golden razz berries, 3 rare candies and a chance to catch the Machamp (I did). My husband got "Times's up!" and the battle tab came up again. However, he also received 3 golden razz berries and a TM! But of course no chance to catch the Machamp.
So what's up with that? If you battle as a group, don't you share in the victory or defeat? Does it matter if you're rival team members, or same team as the gym? That his attackers had all fainted, but my last one was barely hanging on? And if he lost, why did he get a TM and berries?
Has something similar happened to you?
Thanks for any info.
Message to Niantic: This kind of thing will not get casual players interested in your game again! Nor interested in spending money on raid passes, or anything else.

Maybe ur right about different team players but im more inclined to think that it was just a bug. The game is really buggy atm and its hard to not come across different kinds of bugs more often than not. To put things in perpective the ONLY raid i ever saw in my town was a Muk and after i got there the game kept crashing for me just before the battle.. needless to say i spent the raid pass and walked away empty handed but since im rural theres not alot of raids around here so i will always have a pass available when another one pops up..
Edit: btw i kinda am hesitant on spending coins on a premium pass if i ever need one since up until now 100% of raids i tried were bugged xD
From my experience, I've had different team members and I was on a different team than the gym, and when we won, we all got prizes and the bonus challenge. Nobody in our group lost all 6 pokes. Since your husband did that seems to be biggest difference. It makes sense that you got everything because you technically survived your group queue and won. Your husband was mostly prompted to heal his pokes and re-enter the group queue? I've only been in the same situation when I solo and "ran" out of my single group queue, and it asked me to re-enter the same battle with the timer still going. It's possible that losing all 6 of your pokes you don't get the ability to do the bonus challenge. Other ways of not entering the bonus challenge could be i.e. Lag/service connection and to something simple like having no room in your poke storage. If that is the case, it makes sense that he would get some rewards for "winning" the battle after re-entering when you finished it off with your poke, but that begs the question why did his phone say "time out." Well the update is still new, let it iron out or hopefully more people can shed some light in the matter. Imo I would make sure when I'm in a group raid to not get wiped out, and hopefully that doesn't happen to others as well.
The one year anniversary and Chicago event is next month. If there was a time frame to weed out all the bugs, it would be before they have the official event. Can you imagine them releasing the legendaries (hoping) on that day and some people in a 20 group queue lost the opportunity to catch them - people would be furious lol!
