Raid Bosses - Nanab or Razz?

OK, let's assume you are trying to catch a raid boss and don't want to use a golden razz.

I've noticed that Raid bosses seem to dodge more than ordinary mons. I'm losing 1/3 to 1/2 of my premier balls due to dodging and attacking.

With this loss rate, am I better off using nanab berries to reduce my miss rate, or using razz berries to increase my catch odds if I hit?

You know they're not running away until the last one, so...

What I do is look at the CP and you can see how good it is. If it is really good, golden razz every time. Otherwise, pinap it if you need the candy. Or use Nabab or Razz, either way you don't care if you don't get it.

If you have premier balls left over, can they be used in your next raid catch? I'm not sure about that.

Nah if you start with 13 and catch the pokemon on the 2nd throw the other 11 balls are wasted.

  • AFAIK, all raid bosses will spawn at level 20 when you try to catch them, so the CP will pretty much always be the same.
  • Premier balls do not carry over.

My very first raid was a Tyranitar with a huge group, and after beating the boss a Tyranitar popped up, 2092 CP. At the time this didn't seem that awesome to me, but it turns out it is 98% IV's or close to that. I didn't even see any golden razzes in my inventory as it was my first raid, so I tried catching it with normal razzes and it escaped. Lesson learned! I had Golden Razzes but hadn't seen them all the way to the left!

I would say tough luck, BUT at least you saw a Tyranitar and had enough people to take it down.

If you don't want to use a golden berry use a raspberry. Nanabs are a waste for catching mons. Use them to feed mons.

Secret to catching mons:
Being patient on throws is the key. You never want to waste a ball because a mon jumps over your ball or the ball bounces of the mon when there is no target circle. The safest time to throw a ball is when the mon is finishing the attack animation so by the time the mon stays still and opens up it's circle target the ball hits it. Time it correctly and you will never waste a ball. If the mon breaks free from a ball at least that's a random thing. Hope that all made sense.
