Raichu vs Jolteon Moveset & CP?

Looking at this page[0] it seems as if Raichu can deliver the most DPS out of all electric pokemons.

However, this does not mean that it's the most powerful electric pokemon, as Jolteon[1] has a higher max CP than Raichu.

So if I was to pick a "main" electric pokemon, would that have to be a Jolteon with a slightly lower DPS moveset to deliver maximum damage?

There's no right or wrong answer here. It entirely depends on your play style. Raichu does the most DPS. Therefore, if your goal is to take down a flying or water unit who is defending a gym quickly, you'll probably what Raichu, as he can just burn it down quickly.

However, I'd opt for a Jolteon if you want a more versatile unit, and if you don't have very many high CP units, as Jolteon will do better defending a gym, and better if you want him to survive through several battles.

It also depends on how proficient you are at dodging. If you're better at dodging, a weaker pokemon isn't as much of a problem.

Raichu with Spark and Brick Break.

Don't isten to what anybody else says.

Edit: All electric pokemon besides maybe Magneton are way to weak for defending a gym and are purely there for attacking gyms.

Why would you not choose Thunderpunch over Brick Break? TP has a higher dps than BB because of stab and you always want more dps when attacking.

"DPS" is "damage per second", CP aggregates the attack stat, which is a "damage" stat, and defense and stamina/HP, which are "longevity" stats. Damage in this game is not simply a function of "dps": it is a function of dps of attacks * seconds in battle delivering attacks. There is a big difference (the following numbers being absolutely made up, but illustrative) in Raichu taking out 80% of the health of one opponent in 8 seconds and Jolteon taking out 100% of the same pokemon's health in 100% of the same opponent's health in 12 in addition to 20% of the health of the next opponent. Jolteon is doing damage to the first opponent at a lower rate, but it is not dealing less damage.

You are fighting against a clock, so if something has too little damage it may fail against whatever you're fighting against, but, otherwise, absolute DPS is best used to determine who is better on the move-level, not the species-level,
