Question on charge move
Will someone kindly verify if below is true and why : "More time spent using a charge move on defense is generally better"

If the defender is using a charged move, it can't use a quick attack at the same time. The defender can only attack every 1.5-2.5 seconds, and each time the AI chooses whether to use a quick attack or charged attack. The charged attacks generally do more damage per attack.
It is more difficult to dodge every charged move if they are done more often. Attackers often wait to do their charged attack until right after the defender does its charged attack. However, when the defender does two charged attacks in a row, the attacker will often be hit by the second one if doing a charged attack.
Because it means your charge move is a larger portion of your overall damage cycle and therefore has a higher weight to your average DPS.
For example lets say you have a quick move that does 5 DPS and you use it for 5 seconds. You have two charge moves, one that lasts 2 seconds and does 15 DPS, and the other lasts 6 seconds but only does 12 DPS.
Your average DPS isn't going to be simply the average of 5 + 15 or 5 + 12, because they're not used in equal amounts.
5 DPS x 5s = 25 damage
15 DPS x 2s = 30 damage
Total damage cycle = 55 damage / 7s = 7.86 DPS
12 DPS x 6s = 72
Total damage cycle = 97 / 11 = 8.82 DPS
Only using quick move your DPS would be 5. So using the 15 DPS move increases overall DPS by 2.86 while the 12 DPS move has increased your overall DPS by 3.82, because you're using it 6/11ths of the time, whereas the lower duration move you're only using it 2/7ths of the time, and 6/11 > 2/7.
More time spent using a STRONG charge move on defense is generally better.
Let's compare Venusaur, one with PB, another with SoB.
Assuming they both have 10 ATK IV.
Both pokémon uses RL first.
Razor Leaf DPS = 20 / (1.45 + 2) = 20/3.45
Petal Blizzard DPS = 85 / (3.2 + 2) = 85/5.2
Solar Beam DPS = 156 / (4.9 + 2) = 156/6.9
RL/PB Cycle DPS = 105/8.65 = 12.139
RL/SoB Cycle DPS = 176/10.35 = 17.005
However, if you compare Dewgongs with IW and AJ, AJ will have a higher DPS.
this is a nice try, but incorrect. There are too many questionable factors that aren't being considered here.
With your formula, you are basically saying they will fast attack once, then charge move once. A defending mon still needs to charge their charge meter. You are also not taking into account the -2 HP = 1 Energy gained. An attacker does way more damage than a defender - that's why they get the HPx2 boost. It's been rumoured that a defending mon also has the capacity to store 200 energy, but I've never had them perform 2 100 energy attack consecutively - although I've never measured anything here and the AI could be programmed to use the charge move before reaching 200.
also another issue is that it is hard to determine when the AI is going to use the charge move. I've had it when I knew they had enough for 2 50 energy charge moves, but they didn't use them and continued fast attacking or when you know that vaporeon has a hydro pump but its waiting for you to use your charge move first.
