Proper Team Gym Play Questions
Hey guys. I will start by saying that I know every area is different...that being said, what is your opinion...
In my area, in terms of number of players, my team is the minority. My situation is that I am in 18-20 gyms with all quality and/or low cp defenders, not just pokemon I threw in there for placement. I want to make sure other players have spots in gyms, but we have had gyms level 6-9 sit around for days without being prestiged up. Obviously I would like gyms to be at level 10 so they are a deterrent, but I don't to take people's spots. What is a reasonable amount of time to wait?
I guess in addition to that, how can I best help my team? I think it might be best just to keep teams rebuilding their stuff...It probably makes more sense for me to attack other gyms than spending my potions to add another pokemon to a friendly gym. What do you all think?

If your team is the minority team, and yet you are in 18 - 20 gyms, then I would think that you can just leave all the other gyms alone. There's no reason for you to be fighting.
I am in the majority in my area and have trouble claiming more than 4 - 6 gyms a day, and have to fight 3 of those every morning.
IMHO, I think that the gym system revamp needs to include a maximum limit of 15 gyms that any one account can be in at a time. There is no reason for anyone to be in more than that. It gives the max daily coin limit of 10, and allows a 50% buffer. IT would help the game in quite a few ways. Lower level players wouldn't have to compete so much in order to place in a gym. People who are in a lot of gyms wouldn't be holding onto 50 or more spots. New players could actually get into a gym at low levels. Gyms would be more competitive. Even the advanced players would have incentive to battle: when they DO get kicked from a gym, they would have to worry about getting reduced below 10, not below 40.
This is a game, after all. Everyone should have a chance to enjoy it.
I totally agree with the gym limit. That is part of the reason I am asking this question. I don't need or want more gyms but I end up putting pokemon in because many of them don't get prestiged up. I think a lot of this is a territory thing. Other teams have determined that area is not worth their while, so they leave the gym alone, but our own people don't even fill them up. One gym I just gave up on because it sits there with my pokemon and 2 available slots...obviously no one on my team wants it, so I let the other team have it.
I disagree that I shouldn't be fighting though. I lost 5 gyms in one day. I responded by knocking down a few of their towers. After that they spent time rebuilding, not attacking. If people have time and resources, they will knock our stuff down.
First off, thanks for keeping other players in mind. I've recently found myself in the same situation, in 16-18 gyms, so I've been thinking about this too. I've been looking at a free spot in a Level 4 gym topped with a Blissey and Snorlax for three days now because it's just a little out of my way and I either forget to, or can't be bothered to, go there to drop in a mon.
The more I think about your case, it seems that there aren't enough active team members in your area to make it so that your joining more gyms would ever be a problem. If you have good defenders sitting around with nothing to do, they might as well go in a gym - especially a gym that is Level 6-8, and even more especially if your defender would fit perfectly between two existing defenders.
I've only recently started attacking other gyms, but there are enough spoofers in my area that I can use up my gym items by hassling them. I rarely target gyms primarily filled with players that seem to be lower-level or legit (based on their names and the number and types of mons they place in the area). I'm primarily into gyms for the rewards, and I don't like getting kicked out, so I tend to prefer peaceful coexistence over displacing opponents (some of whom might choose to attack a new gym rather than prestige an old one).
If I were you, I'd hassle likely spoofers wherever I could whenever I had resources to burn, but otherwise I'd kick back and enjoy the coins/dust, trashing potions and revives until I needed to push back upon encroachment on my favorite turf.
Man, ya'll don't know the purpose of gyms other than collect coins and dust? And all you think about is being in stagnant gyms for months and months. That shit is boring. I hate stagnant gyms. The spirit of this game is competition. The gym meta is designed to form teams through social media like Facebook which result in meeting new people, forming alliances, spies, collusion, truces, and intelligence gathering of enemies. I love my town. It's a huge battleground between all three teams. Gyms flip all the time. This makes each team to become highly organized and coordinate raids. I've met great people both teammates and "enemies" during raids. It's fun as hell and we make new friends all the time. I work in an area that is stagnant towers and it's boring. I get my 10 every day since I can remember. But in the town I live in I take gyms because of the competition to hold and guard our territory which gets attacked every day. This creates passion for the love of the game among everyone in all three teams.
Peace and enjoy the battles! Drops mike
