Prestiging Omanite vs. Magcargo
I finally collected enough lava slugs (rare here) to evolve a Magcargo, got Ember / Overheat and thought this would be ideal for leveling up gyms since Magcargo as Fire / Rock is double sensitive to water while Omanite as Rock / Water is double resistant to fire. I currently have only a Water Gun / Ancient Power Omanite none with double water moves of matching ~ 1/2 CP and thought it would still work since AP as Rock type does still do 1.25 damage, but the results were disappointing with my Omanite being knocked out when attacking without dodging in 1/4 of the tests. Does anybody have experience with this pair, or any idea why it doesn't work as I thought?

I think the key is "without disgubg" since ember is strong enough to deal damage that worth dodging (as opised to water gun, bite, lick, dragon claw for example).
If magcargo live enough to shoot overheat, I think ends your oma even dodged.
And the base stats are also relevant. In general prestige works better with low cp mons(high def or hp compare to attack) vs. high cp mons(hugh attack compered to hp and def). In this case you are doing in reverse. In fact I think you proved the validuty of above theory, since based only on typing should have been a no brainer win, even without dodging :).
