Prestigers Useless?

I've been experimenting attacking gyms and it appears that you don't get any bonus whatsoever for using Pokemon which are lower CP than the defenders. Does this now mean that everything except the very best Pokemon are completely useless? With the old gym system I cultivated a lot of Pokemon around 1200-1600 CP for prestiging allied gyms, but it seems that I will never want to fight with them now. Is there any reason to hold onto Pokemon below ~2000 CP, or is it just the top tier which is viable now?

You can put them in a gym and hope that will entice someone to take the gym. Then save revives and potions by transferring him.

Update is still new, recommend waiting till they iron out all the little details. Although if you need space in your storage feel free to do whatever you like.

They can be useful to attack mons with low motivation (that equals low cp) if you attack lots of gym and don't have enough potions to always keep your best mons at 100%

Agree. But other than that pretty unuseful.

I'll save them tough because my prestigers have high IV and good movesets so I might want to spend dust to level up.. someday

Totally agree.
I also have an army of prestigers from 1100 to 16xx CP, where I have been selecting the best best movesets from my mass evolutions since last October or so.
They are now completely useless, as you only need the high level attackers and defenders. Therefore, > 80% of all 'mons are useless (I will still keep the best of each prestiger though).
