Prepare for the Gym Rework - Let's Brainstorm!

Hello, dear GP Community,
With this update completed, it is getting even closer to the Major Gym Rework we've been talking about, perhaps it's the next update! How should we prepare for it? It's hard for a single one of us to come up with a thoughtful plan. Then it came to me that why don't we share our thoughts with each other? So, today let's brainstorm!

I'll share my thoughts first.
First, some predictions of the gym rework:
1. They'll keep the Tap & Swipe battle system. This is the very core of the game and, I don't think they'll abandon it. They might add some new elements in it, such as healing during battle, a third move other than quick & charge, or status effect, or different ways of dodging, etc.
2. Gym system is subject to a major change. This has something to do with the "Raid" we've been hearing a lot. Not only will there be a limit for each species, it's also possible that the prestige system, the turnover mechanics, and even the CP-based sorting will change.
3. There will not be new moves. New moves usually come together with a new Gen, so the next patch of new moves should come with Gen3 around August.
4. We still won't be able to change the moves of a mon, unfortunately. This is part of the business model of Niantic and, I doubt they'll be generous.

Then, how should we prepare?
Regarding the big 20 (the highest base stats):
1. Stop all the powering up past L30 if you're in the process. The moves can be totally turned upside down in the new gym system, so it's not a good idea to bet all your money on one move set.
2. Evolve only if you still haven't got all the move set (the moves you want). But if you have all the moves in your hand, I would suggest holding for just a few weeks, saving the candies for powering up after the gym update.
3. Hatch 10k eggs as you like. Since Gen3 is still months away, getting some Dratini/Larvitar candies is the priority.
4. Save adequate Potions/Revives. The new gym could be so exciting that you battle it so much that you run out of Potions very soon. As for Berries, it's usually not a problem because Nanab berries always go to trash can or the mons in the gym, if they implement such function.

What do you guys think?

I bet they do a raid boss that attacks your own gym. Maybe see a different animation on top of gym to show its under attack. I picture it like a massive snorlax attacking the gym and every 20mins he is attacking he kicks out the bottom pokemon until he is stopped. The only way to beat him is feed him berries and team up to take him down.
You heard it here first.

WOW, that's a cool idea! So the Snorlax is controlled by AI?

The way I am preparaing at this point:

  • Saving all dust and candies from top tier mon if you already have them placed in gyms or a decent attack or prestige level, I am gonna make like a 1.5milion dust power run as soon as gym rework comes out and we know about how movesets/mon may be affected, the new better defenders/attackers and their movesets.
  • Saving coins, I have the feeling that after the "big" gym update we gonna get an event (like 2-3 weeks after if they follow the pattern of an event each month aprox) and it will be a 2xdust/candy event as we had just a biome one and a 2x exp before it.
  • As long with the previous, holding 2x10km eggs I had from Easter, hatches there were "almost" a guaranteed good mon, I got 2x10km eggs on last day of Easter, so I am hatching all 10k I get after but leaving the "event" ones waiting for that posible 2x candy.
  • Using as many evolutions items I have on high IV mon, I will soon or later get more and I don't want to miss the chance of getting that "best" moveset Scizor, Slowking, etc...just in case some movesets may become legacy in the future.
  • Trying to get that 5km walk everyday, sometimes I don't have the time, the way Pokemon go calculates distances at least for me is very inacurate, so I have to walk maybe 7-8km to get 5km, but I try to do it everyday, I wake up a little before and walk a bit more on my way to work and back home to get to that point, it seems a small change, but 5km is a magic number in this game at least for me, it means 1xbuddy candy, 1x5km egg (or 2x2km eggs) and catching some more mon and spinning some more stops.
  • Saving ALL max potions and max revives, using the normal, super and hyper ones and regular revives only if I can. I have 190 max potion and 140 max revives at this point, also that extra level helps a lot on this as it gaves you extra max potions and revives.

Mostly all this, but I think the key one is Pokecoins will be harder to come by so if you get a lot of gyms, it's probably better to hoard all your coins in case new items show up or special sales due to Pokemon Go's 1 year anniversary in July. More people will also attack your gyms with a rework so it'll be more work/time to get back in as well.

I also really hope they don't limit it by 1 type for each gym since most biomes are similarly abundant of certain mons (lots of Dratini/Garys/Rhydon/Eevee) and everyone would have to start powering up lower things to get in (which may get changed again).

Any limit won't fix diversity much at all (7 becomes 10) if it's still ranked by CP and most of the time, you will simply be locked out of the gym (key high CP defenders are already in it) and now, you have little to no incentive to prestige 8-10k for the last spots...(you'll get shaved off within a day/before 21 hours).

They should've spent their time to prevent gym shaving and gym sniping FIRST which is far more annoying than this diversity problem.

Change attacking gym rewards and stagnation of gyms will simply go away too...That said, I don't know if it's that great to have constant turnover too...I know I'd stop getting any gyms if it is torn down constantly as well...The balance is hard to figure out and sorta enjoying my 6-10 gyms daily now.

In my opinion, keep some Nanab Berries, they may be used to slow down attackers by adding 1.5–2.5 seconds cooldown for each move.

"Shave" 1-3 pokemons from some enemy lvl 10 towers so they need to max their current best pokemons? :d
Just happened to one of my mons and thinking if this was the case or the attaker just had to leave.

This is actually genius. I'm going to do that now.

Not much to add. Just stress out: preparing based on what we currently know may not be the best idea. All our knowledge on gym mechanics may become obsolete.

Agree with your predictions, but note one thing: we don't know that raids and gyms are the same. Raids may be a separate new feature or may have to do with Legendaries events rather than gym mechanics.

Saving some stardust, candy for mons with best stats and coins for possible event introduced after the update are all sensible advises. But don't go overboard, no new moves will be introduced and I don't see a major move rebalance coming. IMO it's about gym mechanics. Changes in moveset ratings will be linked to gym mechanics only rather than move rebalance itself and therefore it's not likely that we need loads of stardust to adapt ;)

I would love some TM items with a specific move. Come from stops like evo items. You select which mon you use it on, and we get more individualized mon with surprise moves.
